Ferrisburgh weighs in on Rt. 7 intersection safety plans

Posted on January 21, 2019 |

FERRISBURGH — About 70 Ferrisburgh residents packed the upper-level meeting room of their town office building this past Tuesday to meet with two Vermont Agency of Transportation engineers about the intersection of Route 7 and Old Hollow and Stage roads, an intersection they and Ferrisburgh officials agree is dangerous.

At the meeting they learned from VTrans engineers Erin Parizo and David Saladino it was probably not a matter of whether the northernmost Route 7 intersection in Ferrisburgh would be improved, but how and when.

FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh selectboard adopted a town meeting warning on Tuesday that includes spending measures that if approved by residents in March could add almost 2 cents to the municipal portion of the Ferrisburgh tax rate, which this year stands at 29.52 cents per $100 of assessed value.

The board’s decisions include:

•  A proposed town spending plant of roughly $2.065 million, one that crests $2 million for the first time.

Ferrisburgh and farm court-bound over tree cutting

Posted on January 17, 2019 |
By Andy Kirkaldy

FERRISBURGH — After 21 months, the dispute between the town of Ferrisburgh and the owners of the Vorsteveld Farm over clear-cutting trees along Arnold Bay Road appears to be heading to court.

The Ferrisburgh selectboard and tree warden Clifton Mix have maintained the farm needed a permit to work in the town right of way before they hired a contractor in April 2017 to remove 0.75-mile of trees and shrubs along Arnold Bay Road’s east side.

VTrans seeks input on Route 7 hotspot in North Ferrisburgh

Posted on January 7, 2019 |
By Andy Kirkaldy

FERRISBURGH — A public meeting next Tuesday could determine if the Vermont Agency of Transportation eventually makes improvements to the North Ferrisburgh intersection of Route 7 with Old Hollow and Stage roads — and whether those improvements are a full set of traffic lights, a roundabout, or more modest changes.

That Jan. 15 meeting at 6:30 p.m. in Ferrisburgh’s town office building will include a preliminary presentation from VTrans on those options and their cost, effect on safety and impact on the area, as well as crash data and traffic counts.

FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh Selectboard on Dec. 18 voted to dedicate the 2019 Town Report to recently deceased Ferrisburgh dairy farmer John Pierce, whose service to the town included tenures as chairman of its selectboard and planning commission.

Family members said Pierce, who was 84, knew before he died earlier in the day on Dec. 18 that the selectboard planned to honor him that evening.

Pierce, a Hinesburg native, moved to North Ferrisburgh in 1964, when he bought a dairy farm there. He ran the farm until about 2000.
