Talk at Rokeby shows art influences from history

FERRISBURGH — What happens when historic sites and contemporary art join forces to bring ideas from the past into the present? Is art the new mode of interpretation and are artists the new interpreters? Artist and writer Ric Kasini Kadour will explore these questions in a lecture and slideshow on Sunday, Sept. 30, at Rokeby Museum in Ferrisburgh.

Roundabout considered for Route 7 in Ferrisburgh

FERRISBURGH — The Agency of Transportation could install traffic lights at the North Ferrisburgh intersection of Route 7 with Stage and Old Hollow roads within three years, according to a VTrans memo. But a roundabout at that location could be another option, according to the Addison County Regional Planning Commission (ACRPC).

Ferrisburgh and regional planning officials last week said they were encouraged by a VTrans pledge to study the intersection and plan for upgrades to an intersection town residents and officials alike have said is dangerous.

Ferrisburgh rewarded with donation of solar array

FERRISBURGH — One of three sites in Ferrisburgh could be the home of a 15-kilowatt solar array that a solar firm has offered to the town. The sites under consideration are the Ferrisburgh fire station, town-owned land next to town offices, and the parcel at the junction of Routes 7 and 22A

White River Junction firm groSolar will donate that array, which the Ferrisburgh selectboard last week said could cover between one-quarter to one-half of an acre.

Ferrisburgh considers new insurance coverage

FERRISBURGH — At their Sept. 18 meeting, members of the Ferrisburgh selectboard discussed a potential site for a town-owned solar array (see story on Page 17).

In other business on Sept. 18, the Ferrisburgh selectboard:

•  Agreed to pursue a quote from Travelers Insurance, through the Williston Insurance Agency, for all the town’s insurance coverage. Agency representatives said other towns, including Burlington and Milton, have saved money by switching to Travelers from PACIF, which is affiliated with the Vermont League of Cities and Towns.

Talk on colonial meetinghouses set

High-voltage power line project back on the radar for New Haven, Ferrisburgh

NEW HAVEN — The Vermont Green Line was the ill-fated high-voltage power line that developers wanted to run through northwestern Addison County until late 2017, when sponsors pulled the plug after failing to get contracts to deliver energy to southern New England.

But now the project, which could bring millions of dollars in payments to New Haven and Ferrisburgh for hosting the infrastructure, could be back on the table.

Naturalist to offer 'virtual hike' up Mt. Philo at Rokeby

FERRISBURGH — Naturalist and author Judy Chaves will lead a  “virtual” hike up Mt. Philo on Sept. 23, at 3 p.m. at Rokeby Museum in Ferrisburgh. Chaves’ illustrated talk, using then-and-now photos, old maps, and even a bit of poetry, will share what historic gems lie hidden within plain sight in the park.

Modular home dealer eyes site on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh

FERRISBURGH — The owner of Vergennes modular and mobile home dealership Town & Country Homes Inc. has a town permit and is seeking an Act 250 permit amendment that would allow him to move his sales and display office to Route 7 in Ferrisburgh, just north of Vergennes.

The 17-acre site on the highway’s east side that Town & Country owner Patrick Whitley is eyeing formerly housed a driving range and miniature golf course that was operated by late Ferrisburgh resident Bob McNary.

Uncovering the Underground Railroad quilt-code myth at Rokeby

Historian Kate Clifford Larson will speak about the enduring myth surrounding quilt patterns and the Underground Railroad. The illustrated lecture will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, at 3 p.m. at Rokeby Museum in Ferrisburgh, in conjunction with the museum’s special exhibit “Fabric of Emancipation” curated by Harlem Needle Arts.
