Bristol Police Log: Police on the go in April

BRISTOL — During the second half of April, the Bristol Police Department dealt with many typical police chores and also made a few arrests.

A report on April activity issued recently by Chief Kevin Gibbs said that Bristol officers:

• Investigated an incident at Mount Abe in which a female student had reportedly assaulted a male student at 11:22 a.m. on April 14. The mother of the female student alleged the male student had bullied her daughter. But school administrators found that allegation to be unfounded. Juvenile court action is pending.

Bristol Police Log: Man with suspended license cited for DUI

BRISTOL — Bristol police last week reported that, during an April 2 patrol, an officer saw 53-year-old Stanley Early Mayo of Lincoln speeding on Stoney Hill Road, Lovers Lane, Lower Notch Road and Carlstrom Road. The officer caught up with Mayo on Carlstrom Road and signaled for him to pull over, activating lights and siren.

Mayo allegedly ran a stop sign at an intersection and continued onto Route 116, where he was eventually stopped and taken into custody.

Middlebury Police Log: Boa on the loose in Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded to a report of a missing pet snake in the Jackson Lane area on May 30. The snake is described as being a one-year-old Colombian red-tailed boa constrictor, approximately 5 feet long and 2 inches in diameter.

The snake was still at large as the Independent went to press.

Vermont State Police Log: Man cited for theft of steaks and maple syrup

ADDISON COUNTY — On June 2 Vermont State Police went to a home on West River Road in Lincoln to look into a theft complaint. Police determined that on May 30, June 1 and June 2 items such as steaks, maple syrup and money were stolen from a farm stand owned by William Roleau. 

Images of the perpetrator were taken during the theft, and with the help of the Bristol Police Department authorities identified the perpetrator as Bret Tardif, 27, of Waitsfield.

Vergennes Police Log: Cops send cases to state's attorney

VERGENNES — Allegations of assaults, car accidents and motorists locked out of their cars were among the calls that kept Vergennes police busy between May 31 and June 5.

In that week, city police:

•  On May 30 handled crowd and traffic control duties for the annual Vergennes Memorial Day parade.

•  On May 30 heard a complaint from a Green Street apartment building manager about unwanted visitors, but told the manager that if the people were guests of the residents that it was a civil issue between the manager and the tenants.

Vergennes Police Log: City busy with a variety of issues

VERGENNES — Vergennes police dealt with a variety of issues between May 23 and 29, including verbal domestic disputes, reports of stolen prescription drugs, credit card fraud, traffic incidents and accidents, drunken driving and more.

In those seven days, city police also performed a number of grant-funded Click It or Ticket patrols in and outside Vergennes, and:

• On May 23 handled a fender-bender in a Panton Road parking lot.

• On May 23 began investigating the reported theft of prescription drugs from a High Street residence.

Vermont State Police Log: Crack cocaine found in body cavity search

ADDISON COUNTY — On May 25 at around 8 a.m., Vermont State Police stopped a 2007 maroon Chrysler PT Cruiser on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh because the vehicle’s registered owner had an expired license and the vehicle was exceeding the speed limit.

Middlebury Police Log: Man cited for DUI after crash

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited William J. Alexander, 58, of Shoreham for driving under the influence, following a one-vehicle crash on Court Street Extension on May 23. Police said Alexander refused to provide an evidentiary breath sample.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Responded on May 23 to a possible overdose case in the Forbes Circle area and gave the man in question a courtesy ride to Porter Hospital.

Vergennes Police Log: Two citations issued for drunk driving on ATVs on city streets

VERGENNES — Between May 16 and 22, Vergennes police cited two city residents for driving under the influence of alcohol while operating ATVs illegally on city streets.

On May 17 city police responded to a report of ATVs being operated on Meigs Road and eventually tracked three ATVs being driven on King Street. Police allege Norman Dunham, 55, of Vergennes was operating one of them and that he was showing signs of intoxication.

Middlebury Police Log: Police investigate hit and run

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated a hit-and-run accident at around 9:18 p.m. on Friday, May 20, on Seymour Street, in which a man was struck in the back and sustained minor injuries.

Police said the 20-year-old was crossing Seymour Street from the Congregational Church of Middlebury toward the Middlebury Post Office and was struck in the back by a vehicle traveling on Seymour Street toward Main Street. The vehicle left the scene and was last seen proceeding up Court Square, according to authorities.
