Bristol Police Log: Kindergarteners enjoy cruiser

BRISTOL — On March 2, Bristol Police Chief Kevin Gibbs gave a tour of the cruiser to a kindergarten class at Bristol Elementary School. This class set a record when challenged to see how many people could fit in the back seat of the cruiser, getting 12 into the back seat.

Between Feb. 27 and March 5, Bristol police conducted six town-contracted traffic patrols, covering Burpee and Monkton roads and the Daniel’s Four Corners area. Officers issued three tickets and two warnings for speeding, and two warnings for defective equipment

Vergennes Police Log: Found bag held empty bottles and more

VERGENNES — Vergennes police are hoping to return a bag found in the lobby of a local bank on March 2 to its owner. Police said the contents of the bag included uniform pants, two bottles of nearly empty Canadian LTD whiskey, and an Alcoholics Anonymous schedule. They are holding the found property at the city’s North Main Street police station.

Vermont State Police Log: Object thrown at school bus breaks window

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are trying to find out who threw a heavy object at a school bus full of kids and broke a bus window in Starksboro last week.

On Tuesday, Feb. 28, at approximately 3:45 p.m., a Bet-Cha Transit school bus was transporting children home from school on Big Hollow Road near the Hillside Manor trailer park in Starksboro when an object broke through one of the side windows on the bus causing it to break. Police found that the object, a large marble-size ball.

Middlebury Police Log: Middlebury man defrauded in phone scam

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on March 1 interviewed a local resident who had apparently been victimized in a recent phone scam.

Police said the victim received a call from a person purporting to represent a company able to retrieve funds the victim had lost in a time-share scam. The victim was told she could get back her money, plus a $5,000 settlement; all she had to do was pay a 33-percent fee.

Bristol Police Log: Woman cited for DUI after failing sobriety tests

BRISTOL — On the evening of Saturday, Feb. 18, Bristol police arrested Dale Alice Vanleuven, 56, of Bristol and cited her for driving under the influence on Feb. 18.

At 6:57 p.m. an officer observed a traffic violation on Main Street and stopped the vehicle. The officer noted signs of impairment, administered field sobriety exercises and established probable cause to support an arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. A preliminary roadside breath test at 7:12 p.m. showed a blood alcohol content of 0.167 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.

Vermont State Police Log: Police searching for driver in car crash

ADDISON COUNTY — Early this week, Vermont State Police were looking for the driver who crashed a car almost into Otter Creek in Weybridge early Sunday morning and abandoned the vehicle there.

At a few minutes before 3 a.m. on Feb. 26, troopers from the New Haven Barracks responded to a report of a one-car crash on Pearson Road, near the Otter Creek in Weybridge.

Troopers found a silver 2015 Subaru Legacy off the road and partially down the embankment, hung up on a large rock, at the waterway’s edge. The driver was nowhere to be seen.

Bristol Police Log: Drunk man on Main St. lands in jail

BRISTOL — On Feb. 9 at 11:24 p.m., a Bristol police officer responded to Hatch 31, a bar and restaurant on the east end of Main Street, for a report of an intoxicated man who was causing a disturbance and threatening to “let bullets fly.”

The officer was assisted on the scene by Vermont State troopers from the New Haven barracks.

Middlebury Police Log: Ice falling off roof causes alarm

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded to what was reported as a “possible burglary in process” at a home off Little Pond Road on Feb. 22.

Police determined ice had been falling off the roof and that no one was trying to break in.

Vergennes Police Log: Vergennes police busy with vehicle issues

VERGENNES — Vergennes police dealt with a variety of incidents between Feb. 20 and 26, many of them tied into the department’s ongoing traffic enforcement efforts.

In those seven days, city police:

•  On Feb. 20 helped a driver get into his locked car at Vergennes Union High School.

•  On Feb. 21 checked a report of cats being left in a van parked on Main Street and discovered they were there on a temporary basis while a home for sale was being shown.

Middlebury Police Log: Alleged assault under investigation

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police launched an investigation into an alleged domestic assault in the Delancy Lane area on Feb. 15.

Police had not made any arrests in the matter as the Independent went to press.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Were informed of a theft from a Middlebury College dorm room (off Chateau Road) on Feb. 13. Police said they found no evidence of forced entry into the room.
