Bristol Police Log: Reported stabbing was actually a hockey stick beating

BRISTOL — Bristol Police Chief Kevin Gibbs was called out at 1 a.m. on Nov. 21 to deal with a reported stabbing on North Street. When he arrived, he found that no stabbing had occurred, but there had been a physical dispute.

Vergennes Police Log: Police investigate thefts

VERGENNES — Vergennes police are looking into two recent thefts, one of about $300 in cash and one of about $300 of metal.

On Nov. 28 police were told by a shopper at Shaw’s Supermarket that he had left an envelope with cash in it in a shopping cart. When he realized his mistake and returned for the envelope, he found it contained $300 less than he expected.

Vermont State Police Log: Deer crossing causes multi-vehicle accident

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police and Vermont Fish and Wildlife personnel last Friday evening responded to New Haven for an incident in which three vehicles struck two deer on Route 7.

Trooper Kaitlyn Armstrong and Game Warden George Scribner reported that two deer came bounding into traffic between two cars and a truck on Route 7 between the southern entrance to Dog Team Road and the New Haven River at around 5:20 p.m. on Dec. 2.

Vermont State Police Log

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police on Thanksgiving, Nov. 24, were notified that during the previous night someone had shot with a firearm several mailboxes on Meehan Road in Bristol.

A full-size, white truck was seen in this residential area at the time of the gunshots. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the VSP at the New Haven barracks at 802-388-4919.

Middlebury Police Log: Abuse case under investigation

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated a suspected domestic violence case involving a woman that was being treated for injuries at Porter Hospital on Nov. 22.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

  Received a report that someone drove off from the Maplefields store on North Pleasant Street without paying for $50.44 in gas on Nov. 21.

Vergennes Police Log: Police cite underage drinker

VERGENNES — A Saturday visit to a Main Street apartment building ended with Vergennes police issuing three citations, all after an incident of underage drinking.

City police cited Tara Tower, 34, of Monkton for simple assault for allegedly punching the face Jason Shaffer, 21, a resident of the apartment building.

Police said the assault was related to Shaffer’s citation for allegedly furnishing alcohol to a minor. Police also ticketed a minor for underage drinking.

Vergennes Police Log: 21-year-old man cited for grand larceny

VERGENNES — Vergennes police cited a 21-year-old Vergennes man for grand larceny on Nov. 16 after he allegedly stole a zero-radius riding lawn mower valued at $1,800 from a Green Street home.

Police said they were alerted by a property manager that the lawn mower was sitting behind a rental property. When police arrived, they learned that Jason “Todd” Shaffer, 21, had tried to sell the mower to another resident.

Middlebury Police Log: Drunken man cited for open-container violation

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Patrick W. Tracy, 37, of Middlebury for violation of the town’s open container ordinance, following an incident on Main Street on Nov. 16.

Police said they were originally called out on a report of a man putting racist stickers on vehicles and business doors in the Marble Works. Police said they found a man answering that description who they said was drunk and dancing in front of 51 Main St., holding an open container of alcohol in his hand. Police said the man fled when asked about stickers they saw in his pocket.

Vergennes Police Log: Traffic stop ends in drug charges

VERGENNES — Vergennes police twice between Nov. 7 and 13 issued drug citations to passengers of vehicles stopped for speeding on West Main Street, while also citing the drivers for non-drug-related violations.

Vermont State Police Log: Camps are targets of burglaries

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police operating out of the New Haven barracks are investigating a number of recently reported burglaries at county hunting camps.

On the morning of Nov. 8, troopers received a report of a burglary at a hunting camp off Natural Turnpike Road in Ripton. The owner of the camp, Michael Lefebvre of Milton, told police that when he arrived at the camp that morning he found someone had forced their way into the camp, a tool shed, an RV trailer and a separate two-story garage.
