Middlebury Police Log: Middlebury man cited for driving under the influence

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited David G. Kloepfer, 34, of Middlebury, for driving under the influence of alcohol, following their investigation of an accident off Lower Plains Road on Oct. 2. Police allege that Kloepfer left the accident scene to return home. Police said they measured Kloepfer’s blood-alcohol level at 0.182 percent.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

• Served a no-trespass order on a man who was acting strangely and who allegedly threw a cup of water at a worker at a Court Street business on Oct. 1.

Bristol Police Log: Police force way into home to retrieve baby

BRISTOL — At around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, Bristol police responded to a child custody dispute at a South Street residence. A man had barricaded himself inside the residence with an infant child, Police Chief Kevin Gibbs said. The subject was allegedly refusing to return the child to the child’s mother.

The first officer on scene was informed that the man (whose name was not released, as court action is still pending) had taken drugs with a group of other people before the officer had arrived.

Vergennes Police Log: Job Corps assaults are under investigation

VERGENNES — Vergennes police recently investigated two alleged assaults at Northlands Job Corps and one at Vergennes Union High School, and charges followed the two Northlands investigations.

On Sept. 24, police arrested Andre Brown, 18, of New Haven, Conn., for simple assault and lodged him at the Chittenden County Correctional Center. Police allege that Brown punched a fellow student several times in the face after the other student refused to submit to a search that Brown wanted to conduct because someone had stolen money from him.

Urn containing child's ashes stolen

MONKTON — Vermont State Police are investigating a burglary that occurred Monday between 8:25 a.m. and 4:40 p.m., when someone had kicked open the north door of a Pond Road home in Monkton.

Among the many items stolen was a pewter urn approximately 2.5 inches high in the shape of an upside down tear drop. The urn has black stripes and contains the ashes of the victim’s deceased infant child.
