Middlebury Police Log: Local man held on $1,000 bail after domestic assault

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Glenn Fowler, 54, of Middlebury for domestic assault, stemming from an alleged incident in the Halladay Road area on April 1.

Police said Fowler was lodged that evening for lack of $1,000 bail.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Referred to state police on March 26 an allegation that a Middlebury Union Middle School student was being exposed to drugs at a friend’s house.

Vergennes Police Log: Police issue two citations for drug-related impaired driving

VERGENNES — Vergennes police this past Saturday cited two motorists for impaired driving, with marijuana involved in both cases.

First city police cited Kayla Zeno, 25, of Bridport for driving under the influence of alcohol after pulling her vehicle over for allegedly failing to honor a stop sign at the intersection of School and South Maple streets.

Bristol Police Log: Minor charged with lewd and lacivious conduct in public

BRISTOL — On Thursday, March 15, Bristol police arrested a 17-year-old male for lewd and lascivious conduct, following a complaint about an act witnessed in public.

The suspect, whose name was withheld because of the ages of the parties involved, was released and ordered to appear in Addison Superior Court, Criminal Division.

Between March 12 and March 25, Bristol police completed 40 foot and car patrols at various locations, namely on Mountain Street, Main Street and surrounding areas including near Bristol Elementary School.

State police probe thefts of sugaring equipment

BRISTOL — Vermont State Police said they’ve identified suspects in connection with thefts and vandalism targeting multiple sugarworks in Bristol, Lincoln, Cornwall and other Addison County locations during the past three weeks.

Trooper Brett Flansburg on Tuesday confirmed the list of victims includes Mayer Maple Products off Route 116 in Bristol, as well as smaller, residential sugaring operations.

Flansburg said he was aware of five sugarworks cases currently under investigation by officials at the VSP’s New Haven barracks.

Middlebury Police Log: Police remove agitated man from CSAC

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury Police removed, from the Counseling Service of Addison County Main Street offices, a drunken man who was being “belligerent and very agitated” on March 23.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

• Assisted a woman who on March 19 said she had been harassed.

• Helped a Case Street landlord who was having problems with a tenant on March 19.

• Investigated a report of a man carrying a crossbow on Water Street on March 19. Police said they could not find such a person.

Vergennes Police Log: City police receive recognition for DUI help

VERGENNES — Vergennes Police Department’s Drug Recognition Expert Jill Grant twice recently helped Vermont State Police with driving-under-the-influence-of-drugs cases.

In a March 24 case, according to Police Chief George Merkel, Grant offered guidance to VSP in their Middlesex barracks over the phone. Merkel said the DRE provided questions and procedures to VSP on the phone call that enabled VSP to gather enough evidence to require a DUI-drug suspect to submit to blood testing.

Vermont State Police Log: Lost hiker spent night in woods before rescue

ADDISON COUNTY — Rescuers from a host of local and state first response agencies collaborated this past Thursday night and Friday morning to find and evacuate a Middlebury man who apparently got lost in the Green Mountain National Forest and spent the night in the woods.

Vermont State Police report that 27-year-old Jeffrey Kramer went hiking on the Long Trail north of the Middlebury Gap on March 15.

Middlebury Police Log: Police investigate embezzlement case

MIDDLEBURY —Middlebury police launched an investigation into an alleged embezzlement case at Middlebury Regional EMS on March 13. Police said the case involves a “large sum of money” related to an event the organization held back in 2016.

The Independent will offer more details on this investigation as they become public.

This is the second embezzlement case in recent months involving Middlebury Regional EMS as the victim.

Vergennes Police Log: City police deal with accidents, arguments

VERGENNES — Vergennes police handled a variety of routine incidents in a mostly quiet week between March 12 and 18, including responding to minor accidents, calming verbal disputes, dealing with noise complaints, and helping motorists get into their locked vehicles.

During those seven days, Vergennes police:

•  On March 12 brought the department K-9 unit to meet-and-greets at Vergennes union elementary and high schools.

•  On March 13 and 17 helped motorists get into locked vehicles on Main Street.

Vermont State Police Log: Leicester man cited for domestic assault, DUI

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police cited a Leicester man for domestic assault and drinking and driving this past weekend.

On Saturday, March 10, at 10 minutes before midnight, troopers from the New Haven barracks responded to a Leicester home for a report of a family fight.
