Bristol Hub director resigning

BRISTOL — The Bristol Hub Teen Center & Skatepark will say good-bye to its director Saturday.

Brian LaClair has resigned from the Hub, effective Jan. 26, in order to take a job as Parks & Recreation Director for the town of Fairfax.

“It’s definitely a bittersweet move for me,” LaClair said. “The Hub has been my home for the last few years and has set me on a wonderful career path.”

LaClair took over as the Hub’s director in June 2018, after serving for two years as its programs manager.

Bristol Police Log: Police probe car vandalism

BRISTOL — On Jan. 10 at 2:53 p.m. Bristol police responded to a vandalism complaint and discovered that the driver’s window of a car parked at 24 Mountain St. had been damaged.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Bristol police at 453-2533.

Between Jan. 7 and 13, Bristol police also assisted Vermont State Police two times, Bristol Rescue Squad once, and Williston police once.

Bristol suffers limited water service interruptions

BRISTOL -- Water service in Bristol will be interrupted today, Jan. 23, for a few dozen properties in and around Mountain Street Extension as the water department investigates and repairs a water line break in nearby woods.

“The repair effort is underway,” the town reported on Facebook around 9 o’clock this morning. “Water service will not be affected until the leak has been fully located, cleared and the replacement parts are ready to be installed.”

Duo explores jazz with piano and mandolin

Tom Cleary and Jamie Masefield will present an intimate evening of piano and mandolin jazz at the Walkover Gallery in Bristol on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 8 p.m.

These two longtime Burlington-based jazz musicians will take the piano and mandolin to a diverse field of musical settings. They’ll play tunes from classical composer Samuel Barber to jazz heroes like Horace Silver and Ralph Towner, and then to more pastoral landscapes as well as originals.

Bristol sewer to be studied for expansion

BRISTOL — The Bristol wastewater treatment system will soon get a thorough going-over.

The selectboard has commissioned a preliminary engineering report on the 25-year-old system, which is too small to accommodate future growth and change in the downtown Bristol Core Area. Upgrading the system could cost more than $600,000, according to a report prepared for the town last year by Green Mountain Engineering.

Budget for Bristol-area schools unveiling next week

BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham Unified School District (MAUSD) board will present its preliminary 2019–2020 spending plan to the public at 5:30 p.m. next Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Mount Abraham Union High School cafeteria.

The presentation will reflect community and staff priorities developed from a series of surveys conducted over the last year by MAUSD’s Community Engagement Committee, said schoolboard chair Dawn Griswold.

St. Ambrose to host spaghetti dinner

BRISTOL — The St. Ambrose Knights of Columbus is hosting a Knights in Italy spaghetti dinner this coming Friday evening, Jan. 18, in Bristol.

All proceeds will go toward furthering the Knights’ mission of aiding the community in a variety of ways from the Coats for Kids program to the Special Olympics.

The menu includes all-you-can-eat spaghetti with sauce, garlic bread, salad, beverages and dessert. The cost for the meal is $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under, and $25 for a family.

Bristol Police Log: Police process 2019's first DUI

BRISTOL — Just after the new year rang in, at 12:29 a.m. on Jan. 1, Bristol police responded to a report of a traffic accident. The officer ended up citing Jacob Lathrop, 23, of Bristol for driving under the influence.

The officer processed Lathrop and released him with a citation to answer the charge in Addison Superior Court, criminal division, on Jan. 14.

Between Dec. 24 and Jan. 6, Bristol police also assisted Vermont State Police three times, Bristol Rescue Squad twice, and Middlebury police once (on Dec. 27).
