The Champlain Bridge opened to traffic on Monday, November 7, once again connecting Crown Point, N.Y. and West Addison, Vt. Throngs of people turned out to watch the inauguration of the new bridge, which was built in 21 months after the old bridge was deemed unsafe. Commuters and local business owners alike heralded the return of the bridge, which serves as a vital economic link between the two states.

LAKE CHAMPLAIN BRIDGE construction workers, above, walk across the new structure before the start of the opening ceremony Monday afternoon. The ribbon cutting ceremony, which featured many speakers, including Gov. Peter Shumlin, marked the opening of the $76 million span and the closing of the temporary ferry, that served travelers for 21 months while the bridge was built.

Middlebury turns 250!

THE TOWN OF Middlebury celebrated the 250th anniversary of the signing of the town charter with a party at the Town Hall Theater last Friday night. After cake in the Town Hall Theater the Seth Warner Mt. Independence Fife and Drum Corps led the crowd to the Cross Street Bridge for a fireworks display.
