Good Point revises its building plan; Connor eyes growth; auction planned

MIDDLEBURY — Good Point Recycling has tabled plans to build a new headquarters in Middlebury’s industrial park and appears poised to grow its electronics recycling business in Massachusetts, as opposed to Addison County.

Meanwhile, Connor Mill Built Homes (CMBH) is starting to pick up steam as a tenant in the current Good Point building at 227 Pond Lane, a 50,000-square-foot facility that Connor founder and CEO Mike Connor hopes to purchase as soon as this fall.

HOPE closes in on $600K to repair its Boardman St. building

MIDDLEBURY — For 53 years Helping Overcome Poverty’s Effects has built HOPE for residents through a variety of housing, clothing and other critical services.

Now the Middlebury-based nonprofit is seeking help from residents to fortify its Community Services building at 282 Boardman St.

Lawmakers consider gun control bills

Local opioid education program develops a statewide following

MIDDLEBURY — A program launched last year to teach Addison County teens about the dangers of opioid addiction has become so successful that it has gained statewide attention and will soon be exported to school districts in other parts of Vermont.

It’s called HELP (Heroin Epidemic Learning Program) and uses volunteer experts to clearly explain, educate and enlighten students about how addiction to heroin, prescription painkillers and other opioids is affecting their community.

Cornwall man wants to resurrect local store

CORNWALL — It’s been around two decades since the cash register last sang at the old Cornwall Store on Route 30.

If Cas Chlodnicki has his way, the old store will soon be back, better than ever and with a new business plan he believes will improve its viability for years to come. Last summer he purchased the property in the village next to the town office with plans to tear down the current, crumbling 1950 structure and replace it with a new building offering groceries, a dining counter, and rental space for an apartment and perhaps a small business office.
