FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh selectboard on Tuesday, May 9, will hold a public hearing on the proposed new town plan that was written and has already been approved by the Ferrisburgh Planning Commission. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the town’s Route 7 office building.

BRISTOL — A cabin on a lake in Montana in a national park. No cell phone. No Internet. Little company for most of the 25 days he’ll be there, except a solar-powered laptop and a mountain of research.

For some that might sound like punishment.

But Middlebury College computer science professor — and outdoors and nature writer — Matthew Dickerson considered it a prize to be sought.

MIDDLEBURY — What started in 1974 as a used-car lot across from the Middlebury A&W now includes a Ford dealership on Route 7, a commercial store on Foote Street selling trucks and heavy equipment, and a detailing and reconditioning shop back on the original site — all under the G. Stone Motors umbrella.

Along with founder Gardner Stone, now 75, two other Stones have been on the scene since day one: his children, Todd and Darcy Stone.

VERGENNES — At their Tuesday meeting, Vergennes city council members heard a pitch from Bixby Library board President Paula Moore for $8,000 of increased support, but deferred a decision.

The council also decided to keep level the rates for using the city pool, while at the same time dipping deeper into the city’s Watershed Fund to cover a projected operating deficit.

MIDDLEBURY — Friday’s high school girls’ lacrosse game pitted host Middlebury, a 6-0 team that reached the Division I final a year ago and has championship hopes this spring, against 0-4 Burlington, which won the title in 2015 but is now in full rebuilding mode.

The Tigers scored twice in the first 1:08 and three times in the first 4:41, controlled 14 of 18 draws, and used their speed and hustle to earn a 56-15 edge in ground balls as they coasted to a 15-1 victory.
