Get up close to Manet exhibit at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater

MIDDLEBURY — Following the success of “DaVinci: A Life,” a direct broadcast from London’s National Gallery shown at Town Hall Theater last year, THT will show a new series of three broadcasts beamed directly from sold-out art exhibits from across the world, starting with “Manet: Portraying Life,” on Thursday, April 18, at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Theme for Vergennes Memorial Day parade is announced

VERGENNES — Vergennes American Legion Post 14 announces that the theme for this year’s Memorial Day parade, to be held on Monday, May 27, will be “Honor and Remember.”

Legion Post 14 annually sponsors the two-mile parade, the largest in the state, to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of this country. This year the parade committee will be chaired by Dennis Steady, who also serves as the commander of Post 14.

Middlebury's DeLorenzo named to alma mater's hall of fame

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College field hockey coach Katherine DeLorenzo will be a part of the fourth class of inductees into the Goucher College Athletics Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held April 26 at the Baltimore, Md., school. Goucher’s Hall of Fame is intended to recognize, honor and perpetuate the memory of those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Goucher College athletics and its intercollegiate athletics program.

College softball team sweeps Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — The Middlebury College softball team improved to 11-6 with a two-game sweep at Union on Thursday, 7-1 and 10-2.

It was the Panthers’ turn to take the weekend off from NESCAC West play, in which they have a 2-1 mark. Middlebury is scheduled to play a Wednesday doubleheader at Skidmore and then return to league play with a three-game set at Hamilton on Friday and Saturday.

Addison woman killed in Route 17 crash

ADDISON — An Addison woman was killed late Wednesday afternoon in a one-car crash on Route 17 near the intersection with Jersey Street in West Addison.

Vermont State Police said Heidi Brousseau, 54, was killed at around 4 p.m. on April 3 after the 2002 Chevy Tahoe she was driving westbound on Route 17 left the south side of the road and hit a series of trees before coming to rest. A local resident said the accident happened in the curve between Jersey Street South and Church Street, behind the Methodist church.

THIS BARRED OWL has been seen often by Linda Dempsey at her home in Lincoln off and on this winter. When, for the first time, Dempsey saw it out in the daytime last week, she snapped this photo. She wonders why the owl is making its presence known in daylight. Anyone have any ideas?
