FERRISBURGH — After a second potential buyer pulled out, the Ferrisburgh selectboard has put the town’s 34.91-acre parcel next to Vergennes back on the market, four years after the board originally sought a buyer.

Town officials remain upset with the Act 250 process and a new law that prompted auto dealer Tom Denecker to walk away from a $350,000 deal to buy the land.

MIDDLEBURY — About 40 Middlebury College students on this past Wednesday evening took part in a “die-in” to raise awareness about police oppression of minority groups.

The event was organized by freshmen Kizzy Joseph and Elizabeth Dunn, and senior Molly Stuart. The trio said the impetuses for the die-in were the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner — black men who died at the hands of police in Missouri and New York, respectively.

The Better Middlebury Partnership donated the two beautiful wreaths hung on the two large pillars in front of the library. Doug Sinclair of the Sinclair Family Tree Farm donated an enormous tree, which is decorated in red and gold with the theme “The Holidays Take Flight.”

Brandon police war on heroin Chief Brickell.JPG

BRANDON — Drug dealers are people, too. That is a cold, hard fact of law enforcement that is frustrating many Brandon residents as known drug dealers continue to operate locally.

With the Brandon Cares community group gaining momentum in the local fight against heroin and opiate abuse, Brandon residents are learning more about addiction and treatment challenges. But they also question why, if local police know who is dealing heroin in Brandon, more arrests aren’t made to combat the problem.
