BRISTOL — Organizers of the Bristol Green Playground Project say they need to raise an additional $25,000 to fully fund construction of a new playground on the town green.
The group, called the Bristol Green Playground Committee, hopes to raise the funds by the end of April.
MIDDLEBURY — Most of the dozen or so questions Gov. Peter Shumlin fielded at the Legislative Lunch at Middlebury’s American Legion hall on Monday dealt with the proposed natural gas pipeline that would bisect the county.
But in his limited time in Middlebury the governor also briefly touched upon:
•His hope to have all New England states raise their minimum wage rates to $10.10 per hour by 2017.
MIDDLEBURY — The Opera Company of Middlebury (OCM) is offering free tickets to middle and high school students for the Saturday, April 5, broadcast of “La Bohème” at the Town Hall Theater. This “Met in HD” performance will be broadcast live from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. The broadcast starts at1 p.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m.
MIDDLEBURY — An event this week will help draw closer connections between local farms and the school children they feed.
On March 27, the central Champlain Valley’s school community will come together for a day of inspiration, celebration and networking at the fifth annual Stone Soup Summit. Students, teachers, parents, administrators, farmers, food service managers, nurses and community volunteers will share stories of challenge and triumph and work in diverse groups to address the issues facing farm-to-school programs and school nutrition in our region.
BRANDON — More than 250 high school students from all over Vermont will travel to Otter Valley Union High School this Friday and Saturday, March 28-29, for the 2014 Vermont State Drama Festival.
MIDDLEBURY — Despite losing five starters, two on defense, and the top three scorers from the team that went 18-3 and reached the NCAA Division III semifinals in 2013, the Middlebury College women’s lacrosse team so far has not skipped a beat in 2014.
WINDSOR — Longtime Mount Abraham Union High School girls’ basketball coach Connie LaRose was inducted into the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame on March 15 during the VBCA Annual North-South Senior All-Star Games held at Windsor High School.
On the same day, LaRose’s peers chose her as the Vermont Girls’ Division 2 Coach of the Year.
AUGUSTA, Maine — The Vermont champion Middlebury Amateur Hockey Association Under-14 girls team reached the semifinals of the New England regional tournament this past weekend in Augusta, Maine, before bowing out.
The MAHA girls defeated a New Hampshire team, 7-2, on Friday and then a Rhode Island team, 6-0, on Saturday morning before falling to one of two Connecticut teams, the Ice Cats, 4-0, in their second Saturday game.
