BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham Union High School field hockey team needed a second-half goal to earn a 1-1 tie with visiting Metro Conference foe Burlington on Thursday; but Eagles missed an opportunity to pick up points in the Division II standings by defeating a mid-pack D-I foe.
The Eagles’ record stands at 6-3-1 and in third place in D-II behind undefeated Rice and 8-2 Otter Valley, while Burlington (3-4-2) slipped past Middlebury into seventh place in D-I with the road tie.
POULTNEY — Senior running back Michael Winslow and junior quarterback John Winslow led the Otter Valley Union High School football team to a 65-13 victory over host Poultney on Saturday.
The Winslows did all their damage in the first half as OV took an insurmountable 44-7 lead in the Division III contest. Michael Winslow carried the ball 18 times for 187 yard and two touchdowns, and John Winslow connected on eight of 11 passes for 171 yards.

NEW HAVEN — Vermont State Police are investigating a two-car accident Thursday on U.S. Route 7 in New Haven.
Police say the crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Town Hill Road and Route 7. Loretta Lawrence of Ferrisburgh was driving northbound on Rt. 7 and struck the Toyota Camry driven by RoseMary Payne of Bridport, as Payne turned off of Town Hill Road.
WEST ADDISON — The 12th annual Dead Creek Wildlife Day is on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area on Route 17W in West Addison. ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont Gas Systems today, Oct. 3, announced plans to advance its proposed “Phase II” pipeline segment from Middlebury to the International Paper Co. in Ticonderoga, N.Y. Officials from Vermont Gas anticipate filing a formal petition with the Vermont Public Service Board around Nov. 19.
