Panther football tops Trinity with late touchdown

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College football team on Saturday knocked Trinity from the ranks of the undefeated, 27-24, in a game not decided until Middlebury freshman Nate Leedy intercepted a pass in the end zone on the final play of the game. Middlebury’s win snapped Trinity’s 14-game winning streak.

Panther field hockey wins

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Middlebury College field hockey team won its fifth straight game on Saturday, 3-1, at Wesleyan, as Middlebury resident Chrissy Ritter came off the bench for her first goal of the season plus an assist.

The Panthers (12-2, 8-2 NESCAC) are ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division III and have clinched at least the fourth seed for the upcoming NESCAC tournament and will host a quarterfinal game on Saturday at a time to be announced. Wesleyan dropped to 5-8, 3-6 NESCAC.

Middlebury women's soccer extends streak

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Middlebury College women’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 13 games on Saturday, but settled for a 1-1 tie at Wesleyan (2-6-5, 1-4-4 NESCAC). The Panthers (10-1-3, 8-1-1 NESCAC) are ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division III and had already clinched the top seed for the upcoming NESCAC tournament. They and will host a quarterfinal game this Saturday at a time to be announced.

Middlebury Police Log: Attempted phone scam uncovered

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on Oct. 26 learned about multiple local individuals and businesses that had received calls from an alleged Green Mountain Power worker who had told the people he was calling they needed to pay the unresolved balance on their accounts immediately or their power would be turned off. Investigation revealed Green Mountain Power did not place the calls.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Responded to a domestic dispute at a Seminary Street residence on Oct. 21.

Vergennes Police Log: Burglary suspect arrested on DUI charge

VERGENNES — Vergennes police this past weekend issued three citations for driving under the influence of alcohol, including one to an Addison resident who is already facing charges in relation to a string of burglaries in Addison County in 2013 and earlier.

On Saturday, police arrested Nicole Burgos, 29, of Addison for refusing to be tested for DUI. Police said they stopped Burgos’ car for going the wrong way on the one-way portion of South Maple Street near Main Street.

Vermont State Police Log: Vandalism discovered at campsites

ADDISON COUNTY — This past Saturday at approximately 7 p.m. Vermont State Police were dispatched to campsites across Route 53 from Branbury State Park in Salisbury to investigate a report of vandalism. An undisclosed amount of damage was done to several facilities in the closed section of the park.

Bristol Police Log: September 2013

Folklife Center to host pop-up photo booth on Halloween

MIDDLEBURY — On Thursday, Oct. 31, from 4 to 8 p.m. photographer George Bouret will bring his portable pop up studio to the Vermont Folklife Center headquarters building at 88 Main St. in Middlebury to capture the antic quality of Halloween in spontaneous portraiture. All are invited to come in costume or use on-site props to bring out another dimension of your real self in a portrait image that will become a family keepsake. Prints will be sold for a modest fee.
