MIDDLEBURY — Gun violence in Vermont has largely been confined to suicides, but concerns linger about the ease with which guns can be obtained in Vermont and then potentially circulated to high-crime areas of other states.
MIDDLEBURY — Nine Addison County towns have thus far jumped into the mix of communities vying for bragging rights in the state’s Home Energy Challenge, a competition to see which town can get the largest proportion of its residences weatherized by the end of this year.
ADDISON COUNTY — Last year’s sugaring season was the shortest in recent memory. But this year, sugarmakers around Addison County say the season is at least getting off to a sweet start.
“I’m off to the best start I ever had,” said Mike Christian, of Village Sugarworks in Orwell. “I’ve been sugaring for the better part of 40 years, 10 years on my own, and this is the best I’ve ever seen.”

But after spending two years making 1,300 photographs of a dizzying variety of garbage containers, Middlebury College student Ryan Kim has developed a bona fide visual study of those objects — and found that the duality of practical function and aesthetic form in them makes them very interesting indeed.
BRANDON — The Development Review Board in Brandon has acted quickly on a controversial application to establish a medical marijuana dispensary in Brandon, granting a permit last week and opening the door to an appeal.
The move came just a few days after Brandon residents voiced their concerns about a pot dispensary at a well-attended town meeting.
