SUDBURY — A fund has been established at a local bank to help the family of a local man stricken with Eastern Equine Encephalitis who was hospitalized and remains in critical condition.
The Scott Sgorbati Family Aid Fund was established last Friday at the National Bank of Middlebury to help the family of Sgorbati, one of two local men to contract EEE last month as the first human cases in the state. The other man, 87-year-old Richard Breen of Brandon, died of the disease on Sept. 4.
They were the first two EEE cases in Vermont.
NEW HAVEN — On Wednesday a little before 4 p.m. Vermont State Police were notified that someone was illegally growing marijuana in a cornfield near Route 17 in New Haven.
The grow operation was discovered when the corn was being cut down. Trooper Conway reported that marijuana was growing at around six separate sites, each containing five to six plants.
Police pulled out the marijuana and took it to the New Haven state police barracks for destruction.
