Fire strikes Route 7 building in Ferrisburgh

FERRISBURGH — A fire that started at about 10 o’clock on Sunday night burned to the ground the rear third of a Route 7 building in Ferrisburgh and badly damaged the rest of it. The conflagration destroyed many valuable tractors, cars and equipment stored there, and it is forcing a marine sales and service business renting space there — Eriksen’s Crow’s Nest Marina — to relocate.

Eagle boys run away with game in the 6th

BRISTOL — For five-and-a-half innings on Saturday, the host Mount Abraham and Middlebury union high school baseball teams battled on even terms in a crisp game that stood at 3-3.

Then, in the sixth, things started going wrong for a Tiger team that had been playing well enough to win three straight road games and enter the day at 3-1.

Not just whistling dixie

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College sophomore Yuki Takeda might seem just like any other student, whistling as he walks across campus.

But listen closely, and you may notice that his whistling is more ornate than most: Earlier this month, Takeda took third place in the adult male grand champion competition at the 39th International Whistlers Convention in North Carolina.

ACSU fills leadership position

MIDDLEBURY — Addison Central Supervisory Union filled another key leadership position last week in naming Carol Fenimore as new assistant superintendent.

Currently an administrator for an expansive school union in greater- Austin, Texas, Fenimore will succeed longtime ACSU Assistant Superintendent Jan Willey, who is stepping down on June 30.

“I am very excited to become a part of the (ACSU) team,” Fenimore said during a recent telephone interview.

ACTR received $716K in grants for new facility

MIDDLEBURY — Addison County Transit Resources (ACTR) has secured a combined total of more than $710,000 through two grants to help propel its proposed $4.2 million Middlebury headquarters closer to reality.

James Moulton, ACTR executive director, confirmed the two grants during an interview with the Addison Independenton Thursday.

'Sparkling' to offer bubbling beverages

MIDDLEBURY — Nancy Weber-Curth was a 15-year-old visiting student in France when she had her first taste of sparkling wine. Since then, she has been bullish on the bubbly, sampling it in later years during her frequent business travels through Europe and other distant lands.
