Mark Rolland Preseau

ANDERSON, S.C. — Mark Rolland Preseau, 40, of Anderson died at his residence on Dec. 18, 2010.

A memorial Mass was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Dec. 22 with Fr. Ernie Hepner officiating. Inurnment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

He was born Aug. 13, 1070, in Sudbury, Vt., the son of Edgar E. Preseau and Monique Chicoine Preseau. He graduated from Belton-Honea Path High School and was a former employee of Ideal Steel. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Ellen Sperry Phelps

MIDDLEBURY — Ellen Sperry Phelps passed peacefully on Christmas Day surrounded by family in Middlebury; she was 84. Born on March 15, 1926, in the home of her parents, Harold and Ruth Sperry, she was a lifelong resident of Middlebury.

A service was held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 28 at the Congregational Church in Middlebury, immediately followed by a celebration of her life in the church vestry.

Rejean E. Morin

MIDDLEBURY — Rejean E. Morin, 80, of Middlebury died Thursday morning, Dec. 23, 2010, at his residence after a brief illness.

Born Aug. 24, 1930, in Whiting, he was the son of the late Leo P. and Josephine (Denis) Morin.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury. He was a kennelman and groomer for Middlebury Animal Hospital for over 30 years. His relatives say he enjoyed outings with his wife and socializing at local yard sales. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

Jane Bingham

BRIDPORT — Jane W. Bingham, 80, a resident of Bridport for the past 20 years, died at Porter Hospital Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, after a brief illness.

There will be no calling hours; however, interment will take place in the spring of 2011 at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Middlebury.

Born in Whitefield, N.H., Oct. 17, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Arthur D. and Glenna (Eaton) Wiggin.

John Frederick Grearson

BARRE — John Frederick Grearson, 57, of Barre City died Dec. 1, 2010, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. He was born April 4, 1953, in Barre City, the son of the late Lloyd S. and Anna (Stafford) Grearson.

A funeral was held Dec. 7 at the Barre Congregational Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05614.

Carl Gustafson

FARGO, N.D. — Carl Gustafson, 84, longtime resident of Button Bay in Ferrisburgh, Vt., died May 1, 2010, in Fargo.

He was a noted musician and inventor. He taught grade school in Connecticut before retiring to Vermont. He moved to Fargo after the death of his wife, Helen Gustafson, in 2001.

He received a long-awaited sex-change operation in 2003 and was known as Carla for the remainder of his life.

Genevieve Mayer

MIDDLEBURY — Genevieve Mayer, 79, died peacefully after a long illness at the home of her caregivers, Kathy and George Forand in Bristol.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home in Middlebury, with the Rev. Albert “Skip” Baltz officiating. Spring burial will be at St. Genevieve’s Cemetery in Shoreham.

She was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Middlebury, the daughter of Raymond and Dolphine (Neff) James.

She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Middlebury and graduated from Middlebury High School, class of 1950.

Kimberlie Smith

 

NORTHFIELD FALLS — Kimberlie Lee (Martin) Normandy Smith, 49, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born on July 12, 1961, in Burlington, the daughter of Raymond C. Martin and Betty (McDonald) Hammond.

She married Paul Normandy in 1981. They had two children, Raymond and Misty. Kim married James Smith in 2007 on Sept. 15, which was the wedding anniversary of her grandparents, Alfred and Freda Martin of Monkton, who were very special to her.
