Marion Manning

FLEMINGTON, N.J. — Marion Manning, 83, died June 18, 2008, in Flemington, N.J. She was born in Winsted, Conn., the daughter of John and Ethel Duyser.

A graduate of the University of Connecticut, she was employed for many years as feature writer and editor of the Dalton (Mass.) News Record, including the year the paper was named the best weekly in New England, regardless of size, by the New England Press Association. Her human interest articles were published in local and national periodicals and newspapers.

 She lived in Panton for 25 years, 1977 to 2002.

She is survived by four children, James H. Manning of Washington, D.C., Marcia Zweerink of Overlea Farm, Flemington, N.J., John A. Manning of Jericho, and David W. Manning of Montville, N.J.; and six grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, William H. Manning, in l972.

A memorial service will be held July 11 at 1 p.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, Flemington. Following the service, the family will receive friends at Marion’s home on Overlea Farm at 127 Pleasant Run Road in Flemington.

The family will also greet friends in Dalton, Mass., on July 12 from 12 to 3 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church Guild Hall.

A similar reception will be held at Button Bay State Park in Panton on Sunday, July 13, from 4 to 6 p.m. following a private interment ceremony.

Those who wish may contribute to the William H. and Marion D. Manning Scholarship fund at Wahconah Regional High school, 150 Windsor Road, Dalton, Mass. 01226, an award given annually to a student interested in music or writing.
