Marion Manning
FLEMINGTON, N.J. — Marion Manning, 83, died June 18, 2008, in Flemington, N.J. She was born in Winsted, Conn., the daughter of John and Ethel Duyser.
A graduate of the University of Connecticut, she was employed for many years as feature writer and editor of the Dalton (Mass.) News Record, including the year the paper was named the best weekly in New England, regardless of size, by the New England Press Association. Her human interest articles were published in local and national periodicals and newspapers.
She lived in Panton for 25 years, 1977 to 2002.
She is survived by four children, James H. Manning of Washington, D.C., Marcia Zweerink of Overlea Farm, Flemington, N.J., John A. Manning of Jericho, and David W. Manning of Montville, N.J.; and six grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, William H. Manning, in l972.
A memorial service will be held July 11 at 1 p.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, Flemington. Following the service, the family will receive friends at Marion’s home on Overlea Farm at 127 Pleasant Run Road in Flemington.
The family will also greet friends in Dalton, Mass., on July 12 from 12 to 3 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church Guild Hall.
A similar reception will be held at Button Bay State Park in Panton on Sunday, July 13, from 4 to 6 p.m. following a private interment ceremony.
Those who wish may contribute to the William H. and Marion D. Manning Scholarship fund at Wahconah Regional High school, 150 Windsor Road, Dalton, Mass. 01226, an award given annually to a student interested in music or writing.

Janet M. Senecal
LITTLETON, N.H. — Janet M. Senecal, 69, died Friday, June 13, 2008, at Littleton Regional Hospital after a four-year battle with cancer. She was born in Middlebury on May 28, 1939, the daughter of Paul and Gertrude (Bushey) Burke.
According to family, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going on camping trips, going on bus trips with her friends, working in her flower gardens, watching NASCAR, Redsox and Patriot games. She worked for Dodge Contracting, Littleton, N.H., for over 20 years.
She is survived by her brother, Larry Burke, of Casa Grande, Ariz.; her three children, Scott Senecal of Lisbon, N.H., Heather Senecal of Littleton, N.H., and Craig Senecal of Ossipee, N.H.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Robert J. Senecal, in 2000.
A Mass of Christian Burial was be held at Saint Rose of Lima Church in Littleton, N.H., on Saturday, June 21. Burial followed in St. Rose Cemetery.

Leona M. Robinson
LINCOLN — Leona M. Robinson, 72, died Thursday, June 12, 2008, at her home in Lincoln after a long illness. She was born Aug. 26, 1935, in New Haven, the daughter of Clarence and Mildred (Varney) French.
She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 19 in Bristol, and Goodrich Quarter Century Club in Vergennes. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, and crafts.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, William S. Robinson of Lincoln; six children, Lee Diesi and husband, Jerry, of Bristol; Kim and husband, Randy Crowell; Coogie and husband, Doug Baker; Mitzy and Art Baker; Peter and Angel Robinson, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; Bill and Deb Robinson of New Haven; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna Noble of New Haven; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a half-brother, Arthur Tubbs.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 16, at United Church of Lincoln. Interment will be in Maple Cemetery in Lincoln.

BRISTOL — Memorial services for Renia Partridge, who died May 6, 2008, will be held at St. Ambrose Church in Bristol on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at 5:15 p.m.
The family will welcome friends at a reception at Mary’s Restaurant following the service.
Dorothy J. Moore
MIDDLEBURY — Dorothy J. Moore, 94, died early Saturday morning, June 14, 2008, at her residence with her family by her side. She was born Jan. 5, 1914, in Middlebury, the daughter of the late Charles and Frances (Swenor) Shaw.
She attended local schools and was a graduate of Middlebury High School. She married Lawrence P. Moore on June 30, 1937, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury.

Augusta U. (Rotax) Weaver
MONKTON — Memorial services for Augusta U. (Rotax) Weaver, 90, who passed away Nov. 29, 2006, in Syracuse, N.Y., will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. at the Old Quaker Cemetery (Rotax Estate) on Cemetery Road in Monkton. The Rev. John R. Burbank will officiate.
Margaret M. Sanchez
MIDDLEBURY — The Memorial Mass for Margaret M. Sanchez, 40, of Middlebury, who died on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday June 20, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury. The Rev. Justin Baker will officiate. Graveside committal services and interment will follow in St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery, Orwell.

Ellen Lamar Thomas
LENOX, Mass. — Ellen Lamar Thomas, 95, of 235 Walker St, Kimball Farms Retirement Community, former reading consultant at the University of Chicago and author of books on teaching reading, died May 22, 2008, at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center.
Born in North Tonawanda, NY, on Sept. 16, 1912, daughter of Ellen Beattie Thomas and Bernard Thomas, she was a graduate of St. Petersburg FL High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from the College of William and Mary, attended Columbia University and earned her master’s degree in journalism from Wisconsin University.
Mrs. Thomas taught journalism and English in Florida and in the Panama Canal Zone, then became a reading specialist, spending much of her professional life in the Laboratory School of the University of Chicago, where she trained teachers and helped young people upgrade their reading. Her work there earned her the Master Teacher’s medal.
Her book, “Improving Reading in Every Class,” was selected as a Book of the Year in education. Upon leaving the Laboratory School, Ellen was honored by the senior class for being of special help to them during their high school years and, at their graduation, was awarded an honorary diploma, which became a prized possession of hers.
A free lance magazine writer, her articles have appeared in Parents Magazine, Mature Years, Mature Living, Living with Teen-Agers, Popular Photography, Catholic Digest, and a host of other publications.
A resident of Middlebury for several years, Ellen was active in community projects, writing slide shows for the United Way, being secretary for the League of Women Voters and Community Action, and writing publicity for Addison County Hospice, the Thanksgiving Food Drive, and the Christmas Shop.

Wayne A. Palmer
CHARLOTTE — Wayne A. Palmer, 77, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1930, in Starksboro, the son of George and Illa (Morrill) Palmer.
He was employed at Henry Carse Farms in Hinesburg for 58 years.
He is survived by long-time companion May Loyer of Charlotte; five children, David Palmer and his wife Charlene of Hinesburg, June Palmer and friend Arthur Thomas of Charlotte, Theresa Paya and her husband Donald of Hinesburg, Jeff Palmer and friend Terryann Martin of South Starksboro, and Bradley Palmer and friend Michelle of South Starksboro; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Reynolds of Colchester and Dennis Reynolds of Penn Yan, N.Y.; three sisters, Betty Patterson of Lincoln, Shirley Lattrell of Connecticut, and Sally Hall of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 10, at 11 a.m. at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol, with interment in Grand View Cemetery in Charlotte. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

William “Earle” Thompson
HOOD RIVER, Ore. — William “Earle” Thompson, 44, formerly of East Middlebury, died on May 31, 2008, as a result of an accident in Hood River, Ore. He was born in Hartford, Conn., the son of John and Catherine (Riker) Thompson.
He was a graduate of Middlebury Union High School and Paul Smith’s College. Family said he was a natural athlete and excelled at hockey during MAHA’s infancy. He loved adventure and spent the last 17 years near the Columbia River Gorge, pursuing his passions of windsurfing and snowboarding.
He was said to be quick with a smile and filled his life with family and friends, entertaining them with his detailed stories, gourmet cooking, artistic stonework, and his abundant enthusiasm for life. He was known for one of his favorite expressions, “Right on!”
He is survived by his mother, Kitty Thompson, of East Middlebury; three sisters, Cathy Field of Becket, Mass., Heather Hardt of Salisbury, and Beth Wimett of Brandon; a brother, John Thompson of New Haven; and numerous other friends and family from both the East and West Coasts.
A celebration of his life will be held at the DAR State Park in Addison on Sunday, June 8, at 11 a.m. Donations may be made to the Memorial Sports Center, Expansion Project, Box 835, Middlebury VT 05753.
Herman Craig Voigt Jr.
SUMTER, S.C. — Herman Craig Voigt Jr., 30, of Sumter, S.C., died Friday, May 30, 2008, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
He was born in Wrightstown, N.J., the son of Herman Craig Voigt Sr. and Sharon Hance Voigt. He was the husband of Annette Lawson Voigt and a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Sumter.

Rev. Robert Wright Capen
FORESTDALE — Rev. Robert Wright Capen, 82, died Monday, May 26, 2008, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. He was born in Proctor on July 22, 1925, the son of Charles and Julia (Wheeler) Capen.
He received his education in Brandon schools. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Marine Corps. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Brandon.
On September 22, 1945, he married Esther Mabel Osgood in the Forestdale Wesleyan Church.
In his earlier years he worked as a chef in several area restaurants and inns. He later relocated to Ticonderoga, N.Y., and worked with the Wilcox and Regan Funeral Home for several years.
It was during this time that he changed his career and became a minister; for many years he served as the pastor of the Chittenden Wesleyan Church.
He drove the “Champagne Special” in Long Lake, N.Y. He and his late wife were instrumental in forming Community Christmas as well as other helpful organizations. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus at various organized Christmas parties for children.
He was a member of Brandon American Legion Post 55. Following his retirement he was know as “Grandpa Bob” while working as a greeter at K-Mart in Rutland, as well as the coffee shop at Rutland Regional Medical Center. He had also worked as a Foster Grandparent at Neshobe Elementary School.
He was a member of the Forestdale Wesleyan Church, where he served as a deacon and layman. He also served on the board of trustees.
