Lynne H. Porter
MIDDLEBURY — Lynne H. Porter, 52, died April 2, 2008, after over a year of fighting malignant melanoma.
She was the former executive director of Care Net Pregnancy Center in Middlebury and mother of seven.
According to family, she will be remembered by her warm smile, giving nature and her passion and talent for cooking. She invited Middlebury College students who didn’t have a place to celebrate the holidays over for meals. During the Christmas period, she would bake her infamous rum cakes with her secret recipe.
She was a member of the Bridport Congregational Church. Her children report that she loved to take them to attend François Clemmons’ concerts. She also participated in the Middlebury College Community Choir with her daughter, Esther.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Schantz of Tucson, Ariz.; her father, Henry Porter of Bend, Ore.; her sister, Lisa Barner of Stuart, Fla.; her brothers, Jay and George Porter of Jackson, Mich.; and her children, Jason Porter of Stuart, Fla.; David Porter, Esther Wolf, Daniel Wolf, Alex Wolf, Arianna Porter, and Aaron Porter.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, April 5, 2008, at the Shoreham Congregational Church. The Rev. Tim Franklin, pastor of the Bridport Congregational Church, officiated. Private burial will be in the East Shoreham Cemetery at a later date.
