Elsie Wimette Patnode

MIDDLEBURY — Elsie Wimette Patnode died 100 years young on Feb. 22, 2008, in her home in Middlebury. She was born Dec. 12, 1907, in Whiting, the daughter of Julius Wimette Jr. and Elizabeth (Maheu) Wimette.

On Sept. 4, 1933, she married Frederick E. Patnode of Keene, N.H. He predeceased her on May 9, 1991.

She graduated from Middlebury High School in 1926. She also attended Bay Path Institute in Springfield, Mass.

After returning to Middlebury she worked as secretary in the office of Atty. Wayne C. Bosworth for 47 years, retiring Dec. 1, 1977.

She loved flowers and was an avid gardener.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Middlebury. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters.

She is survived by six nieces Leah Vincent and Beulah Jurach of Bloomfield, Conn., Sylvia Ahern of South Windsor, Conn., Audrey Butler of West Haven, Conn., and Catherine Simmonds of North Branford, Conn.; also by a grand nephew, Donald Vincent and his wife Kathleen of Nashua, N.H., their daughter, Jessica Smith and her husband Timothy and their daughter, Ember of Jaffrey, N.H., a grand nephew, Dennis Vincent and family, and a grand niece, Carol Vincent all of Manchester, Conn.; and a long-time, very dear friend, Betty Cyr of Burlington.

She was predeceased by a sister, Mabel Vincent of Bloomfield, Conn., and two brothers, Herman and Percy Wimette.

A mass of Christian burial was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008. The Rev. Justin Baker officiated.

Burial will take place at a later date in St. Mary’s cemetery in Middlebury.

Andrew C. Vincent

VERGENNES — Andrew C. Vincent, 79, died unexpectedly at Porter Medical Center, Middlebury, on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008. He was born in East Calais on July 21, 1928, the son of Clyde W. and Dora V. (Baker) Vincent.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He attended the law enforcement course at Champlain College and was a police officer in Shelburne and Waterbury, rising to the rank of captain with the Vergennes Police Department.

He was also a longhaul driver and owned two trucks. He was a lifetime member of the Milton VFW and DAV. According to family he enjoyed fishing, boating and camping with them and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mildred (Foster) Vincent of Vergennes; two children and their spouses, Linda and Douglas Parker of Williston, and Bill and Anne Vincent of Ferrisburgh; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Paul, Gordon and his wife Nancy, and Gary Vincent; his sister, Virginia and her husband Richard St. Amour of Milton; his brothers Raymond Vincent of Maine, and David and his wife Shirley Vincent of Georgia; his brother-in-law, Edward Poland of Essex Junction; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Bruce, in 1961; and two sisters, Marion Poland and Irene Martin.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 21, in Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Chapel in Burlington, with the Rev. Gary Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Essex Junction, in the spring.

Justin Michael Traverse

RUTLAND and BRISTOL — Justin Michael Traverse, 10, died in an automobile accident on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, in Middlebury. He was born Jan. 4, 1998, in Rutland, the son of Dereck S. Busier and Jennifer Morits Traverse.

He was a fourth-grader at Bristol Elementary School. He and his parents were killed in a car accident in Middlebury.

He is survived by his grandmother, Geraldine Morits of Rutland; grandmother, Debra Norris of Bristol; grandfather, Stephen Busier of Arizona; great-grandparents, Glen and Flora Norris of Bristol; his sister Latisha and brother Aidan Busier of Middlebury; step-mother Anna Busier of Middlebury; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial service was held on Monday, Feb. 18, at First Baptist Church in Bristol. Interment will be at a later date.

Elaine Julia (Pratt) Moore

BRATTLEBORO — Elaine Julia (Pratt) Moore, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 10, at Eden Park in Brattleboro. She had experienced a serious fall in November of 2007 and was declining in health since that time. She was born on No. 17, 1920, in West Addison, the daughter of Alvin S. and Sylvia (Hamblin) Pratt.

She attended a one-room school in Addison through elementary school and graduated from Vergennes High School in 1937. At the age of 16, she entered the University of Vermont, graduating in 1941 with a degree in elementary education.

She met her husband Linwood P. Moore at the Grafton Tavern in Grafton, and they were married on June 15, 1944. They were married for nearly 51 years. They resided in Westminster and then moved to Saxtons River in 1949. She taught elementary school in Middlebury, Westminster, Gageville, Saxtons River and for 18 years at Kurn Hattin Homes, retiring in 1982.

She was a member of the local Nature Club, Neighborhood Club, Saxtons River PTA and Christ’s Church in Saxtons River for many years, where she was a member of Women’s Fellowship and Club 39.

Charlotte Elsie Murray

BRANDON — Charlotte Elsie Murray, 65, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. She was born in Staten Island, N.Y., on Oct. 8, 1942, the daughter of Charles and Elsie (Duryea) Siravo.

She received her education in Dover Plains, N.Y., schools. She worked in food service at Harlem Valley State Hospital in Wingdale, N.Y., for several years. She and her husband were married June 10, 1961, in Dover Plains, N.Y.

She has been a resident of Vermont since 1971, moving to Leicester with her family from Litchfield, Conn. She was a member of the Dunmore Hose Company, Ladies Auxiliary. She was a communicant at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon.

She is survived by her husband, Francis Edward Murray of Brandon; two daughters, Tracey A. Murray of Pittsford, and Wanda M. Murray of Brandon; a son, Bruce E. Murray of Mineville, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandson also survive her.

She was predeceased by a sister, Aida Perry, in November 2002.

Cornelia “Cornie” Herrington Trudeau

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Cornelia “Cornie” Herrington Trudeau, April 2, 1910, to Jan. 18, 2008, with her loving family by her side, passed away peacefully in her home in Sunnyvale, Calif. Cornelia’s husband, Paul, preceded her in death in 1976.

She is survived by her children, Martha Salmassy (Oscar) of Santa Cruz, Calif., Gerard Trudeau (Carolyn) of Middlebury, Michael Trudeau (Glenna) of San Jose, Calif., and Patricia Pascoe (Brent) of Fallbrook, Calif. She was a loving grandmother to 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Cornelia was born in China, Maine. At the age of eight she was enrolled in Hebron Academy, a boarding school in Hebron, Maine. It was there that she attained her independent spirit, which she carried forward throughout her life. She was a graduate of Middlebury High School in Middlebury, class of 1926. After marriage she resided there for many years while raising her four children.

She moved to San Jose, Calif., in 1961 and was a real estate agent employed by LAO Realty for over twenty-five years.
