Geneva Agnes Peters

 

MIDDLEBURY — Geneva Agnes Peters, 86, passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

She was born Nov. 20, 1925, in Hancock, Vt., the daughter of Raymond and Elise (Sherman) Whittier.

She enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading and doing word search puzzles until she went blind. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

James Henry McKinnell

 

BRANDON — James Henry McKinnell, 81, of Brandon died Feb. 2, 2012, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Orange, N.J., on May 15, 1930. He was the son of Robert and Florence (Preston) McKinnell.

He grew up on the family farm in Mendham, N.J., and attended a one-room schoolhouse in Ralston, N.J. He graduated from Morristown (N.J.) High School, class of 1947. He afterwards took a working course in tool and die making at Piccitanny Arsenal in New Jersey. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 and served in Korea.

Robert L. Guertin Sr.

 

EAST MIDDLEBURY — Robert L. Guertin Sr., 67, of East Middlebury died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Porter Medical Center.

He was born March 5, 1944, in Rutland, the son of the late Francis and Antoinette (Bartlett) Guertin.

He was a graduate of West Rutland High School, class of 1962. After graduation he enlisted in the Vermont National Guard. He married his high school sweetheart, Joan M. Czachor, in West Rutland on Nov. 5, 1966.

He worked for Standard Register for 38 years, previously working at General Electric.

James R. Dike

 

WALTHAM — James R. Dike, 69, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2012, at his home in Waltham.

He was born Jan. 9, 1943, in Randolph, the son of Lyman and Marion (Ryan) Dike.

He worked at local restaurants as a cook for many years. His relatives say he enjoyed coin collecting, music, and visiting family members with his mother.

He is survived by a sister, Marjorie Jerome and husband Howard of Shoreham; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be at Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes in the spring.

Robert Tucker Jr.

LINCOLN — Robert Leonard Tucker Jr., 92, of Lincoln died Jan. 29, 2012, in Bristol, after suffering a massive stroke on Jan. 22.

He was born in New Haven, Conn., Nov. 30, 1919, the son of Dr. Robert L. and Grace Wheeler (Green) Tucker.

He was a graduate of Ohio State University School, 1939, and the State University of New York, Oswego, 1953. He was a conscientious objector during World War II. He taught industrial arts at Brighton (N.Y.) Middle School.

Since age 11, he spent summers at Thompson’s Point on Lake Champlain.

Norma Menish

HERKIMER, N.Y./WEST ADDISON — Norma Ann Menish of Herkimer, N.Y., and West Addison died Jan. 30, 2012, after a brief illness.

She was born March 2, 1933, in Burlington, the daughter of the late Archie and Lila (Whittemore) Bodette. She grew up and attended school in Vergennes and graduated from the University of Vermont.

She taught school at Addison Central School for one year. She married Herbert E. Menish Jr. on June 25, 1955, a blessed union of 35 years until his death on Feb. 9, 1994. She taught in the elementary schools of Herkimer for 20 years.

H. Ross Lowry

FERRISBURGH — Ross Lowry, 56, died at home in Ferrisburgh on Jan. 31, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 16, 1954, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, to Daryl and Elizabeth (McElrea) Lowry. He graduated from Vergennes Union High School in 1972 and was employed at Goodrich Corp. for 31 years. His relatives say he was an avid golfer and loved sports. He had a love of fishing and spending time at Disney World with his grandchildren.

Noreen Fritz

BRISTOL — Noreen K. Fritz, 91, of Bristol died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at her home.

She was born Oct. 18, 1920, in Echo Bay, Ontario, Canada, the first daughter of Pauline Mary Jane (Johns) and Adelard Del-Bon. Her family moved to Ferndale, Mich., when she was 3, and she lived in or around Ferndale for most of her life.

In 2005, she moved to Bristol and lived in her own residence until her death.
