VERGENNES — Vergennes police are seeking information about persistent vandalism at the department’s new Main Street headquarters: Chief George Merkel said there have been four incidents in which sheetrock screws have been tossed onto the station’s driveway, most recently on July 24.
Merkel said the screws have caused one flat tire, but more importantly that damage to cruiser tires poses a safety hazard for both police officers and citizens, as well as creates costs for Vergennes taxpayers.
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police located the mother of a young boy found wandering in the roadway near the Pulp Mill Bridge on July 21. Police located the child’s mother and have referred the matter to state officials.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Were informed that someone had taken a checkbook from a Buttolph Drive residence on July 21.
ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are looking into the disappearance of a four-foot-tall cement statue of an African American male holding a lantern, which was apparently stolen from a Hancock residence last week.
