SALISBURY — Thank you, John Flowers, for the nice write up about my career as the Salisbury correspondent. The interview was fun and we certainly talked about many events that had occurred during the years. My daughter Gayle wants folks to know that she still lives and works in Stowe, not Killington, but as we mentioned we have to have a mistake to prove we are human.

Lincoln news for Dec. 13

LINCOLN — The Lincoln Library is hosting an afterschool craft on Wednesday, Dec. 19. Crafters will be making paper snowflakes and ornaments for the holidays. Please sign up at the library.

Here are the holiday hours for the library: closed on Monday, Dec. 24, and Tuesday, Dec. 25, open Wednesday, Dec. 26, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on Monday, Dec 31, and Tuesday, Jan. 1.

SAVE THE DATE: Winter recess for the Mount Abraham Unified School District is Monday, Dec. 24, through Tuesday, Jan. 1.

'Zig Zag' magazine is looking for artists

VERGENNES — “Zig Zag Lit Mag” is looking for local artists and writers to submit work for their sixth issue. “Zig Zag” has published dozens of Addison County residents — amateurs and professionals alike. 

The editing board, comprised of local designers and educators, is looking for a wide range of material. If you make it, they’ll take it. Full submission guidelines can be found at zigzaglitmag.org.

Bridport's Howlett takes crown as Miss Vermont Teen USA

BRIDPORT — Jenna Howlett of Bridport  was named Miss Vermont Teen USA 2019 at the conclusion of a Nov. 4 competition at the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center in Stowe. That same day Bethany Garrow of Rutland Town was crowned Miss Vermont USA. 

Howlett, daughter of Tim and Julie Howlett, is a junior at Middlebury Union High School. She claimed the title of Miss Vermont Teen USA 2019 after engaging in a personal interview with a selection committee and in active wear, evening gown, and on-stage question phases of competition.

Middlebury College president Patton to read her poetry

MIDDLEBURY —  Laurie Patton, president of Middlebury College, will read from her latest poetry collection, “House Crossing,” on Sunday, Dec. 16, 4:30 p.m., at The Vermont Book Shop in downtown Middlebury. The afternoon will include the reading, a discussion period and a book signing. Light refreshments will be served. Free and open to the public.

Editorial: Farm Bill passage lauded; inequitable loophole exposed

Vermont’s congressional delegation lined up in support of a compromise $867 billion Farm Bill passed overwhelmingly by the U.S. House and Senate earlier this week. The House approved the bill 386-47; the Senate approved it 87-13. The strong bipartisan support, analysts said, was spurred in part by pressure from farmers battered by President Trump’s trade war with China.
