Posted on July 26, 2018 |
By Addison Independent

MIDDLEBURY — Golfers should be aware that holes have been switched at Ralph Myhre Golf Course: The former Hole No. 9 is now Hole No. 18, and vice versa.

Course operators advise golfers that after completing No. 8 they should follow the signs over to play the new No. 9 (the old No. 18). After playing No. 17 they should follow the signs to play the new No. 18 (the old No. 9). New signs and scorecards with updated yardages and slope are in place, according to an email from the course.

Matt Dickerson: Coping, Part 2: Wildlife noisy on Otter Creek

Posted on July 26, 2018 |
By Matt Dickerson

VERGENNES — Late this past Saturday Vergennes police dealt with a man who they said admitted drinking too much and was arguably wearing too little: He was naked when they first encountered him outside a First Street home.

City police responded to a call late on Saturday saying there was a naked man with a bicycle on Panton Road. When they arrived they found the man unclothed in a First Street yard. He then, police said, went onto the home’s porch and put on a pair of shoes.

MIDDLEBURY — As residents seek respite from scorching summer temperatures at local swimming holes, pesky rumors about water cleanliness — or lack thereof — can inject unease into otherwise bliss-filled afternoons. Talk of waterborne E. coli is particularly quick to cause alarm.

Thanks to the Addison County River Watch Collaborative, though, swimmers wary of foul waters can find monthly updates on E. coli levels in local waters that can help determine which swimming holes are safest.

Hawley, Mel.jpg

VERGENNES — Vergennes City Manager Mel Hawley has agreed to remain at his job — but only on a part-time basis until Aug. 31 — to allow the city council a little more time to find his permanent replacement.

Deputy Mayor and search committee chairman Jeff Fritz said good candidates have emerged from a search coordinated by the Vermont League of Cities and Towns, but none would be able to take over in time, even on an interim basis, before Hawley planned to step down after this Tuesday’s council meeting.
