DuPont Brothers perform for Bluegrass and BBQ

Grab your lawn chairs and blankets, gather family and friends, and get ready for the next summer night of bluegrass and BBQ at Shelburne Vineyard. On Friday, July 27, the DuPont Brothers will take the corner stage on the vineyard’s patio from 6 p.m. until dusk. Bluebird BBQ and Shelburne’s Sisters of Anarchy Ice Cream from Fisher Brothers Farm will provide the food. Shelburne Vineyard wines and Fiddlehead will be available to quench your thirst. The event is family friendly and admission is free.

Celebrating a decade at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater

On July 26, 2008, a decade of hard work by people in the Middlebury community paid off, and the newly-restored Town Hall Theater re-opened for business. Originally built in 1884, the restoration created a state-of-the-art theater inside of the historic brick shell. 

Since then, THT has presented over 1,500 events, making it one of the busiest and most successful small-town theaters in the county. It has presented grand opera, trained dog acts, weddings, film festivals, Broadway musicals, gospel choirs, theater education for kids, meetings, conferences and more.

Britt Connors and Bourbon Renewal perform in Brandon

Britt Connors and Bourbon Renewal bring their own brand of “Y’all-ternative” music back to Brandon Music this Saturday evening, armed with the makings of Connor’s third album. Before heading into the studio in September, they’ll debut some new songs and new arrangements of old songs. The band is comprised of some of Boston’s finest jazz and Americana musicians, who have all previously played at Brandon Music with Connor, or as part of the John Funkhouser Trio/Quartet.

Abenaki-inspired poster to emphasize respect for land

VERMONT — Advocates for racial justice in Vermont hope that a recently created poster will soon be seen in schools, libraries, town offices and small businesses all over the state. The poster reads: “Please respect and protect N’Dakinna (our land) while you are here. This is the homeland of the Western Abenaki People.”

Interviews for city manager set

VERGENNES — In a Tuesday meeting held in the Vergennes Opera House and largely devoted to honoring retiring City Manager Mel Hawley, members of the Vergennes City Council said they continued to be optimistic about finding a new manager before the end of August.

That’s when Hawley will step down for good. He had planned to leave after this past Tuesday’s celebration, but agreed the week before to fill in on a part-time basis to give the council another five weeks to complete its hiring process.

Middlebury Hall of Fame nominations sought

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury High School (MHS)/Middlebury Union High School (MUHS) Alumni Association is requesting nominations for the Hall of Fame for induction at Homecoming on Sept. 29.

If you know someone who you believe deserves consideration for the MHS/MUHS Hall of Fame, please review the following criteria and submit a letter of recommendation as indicated below.

1.  Graduate from Middlebury High School.

2.  Graduate from Middlebury Union High School at least 25 years prior to consideration.

ADDISON — The Kayhart Brothers Dairy in West Addison will host “Breakfast on the Farm” this Saturday, July 28. Enjoy a free pancake breakfast and a self-guided tour to see what the farmers have been up to these last few years, as well as learn a little about what they do and why they do it.

Vergennes youth club takes swing at gift challenge

VERGENNES — The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vergennes is no stranger to challenges, but is now looking to the community to help with a fund-raising challenge.

Over the past three years, the club has renovated its existing space in downtown Vergennes and according to club statistics experienced an upsurge in membership and begun serving much-needed meals to its members at the rate of 4,190 meals in the past year.

With more young people coming through the doors than ever before, providing much needed space became its latest challenge.
