Girls' soccer teams shut out in playoffs

ADDISON COUNTY — All local high school girls’ soccer teams were defeated in Wednesday playoff games, mostly in highly competitive matches.

EAGLES

Mount Abraham had finished strong in the regular season to become the only local soccer team to earn the No. 7 seed and a home game, but was upset by No. 10 Harwood, 3-1.

Letter to the editor: Stealing signs hurts free speech

We the below undersigned are disappointed that the lawn signs in support of Valerie Mullin are stolen from lawns in front of the homes of those who hope she will be elected to the Vermont House of Representatives.

When a family puts up a lawn sign, they are exercising their right of political free speech, a constitutionally protected freedom, a freedom envied throughout the world by people who do not enjoy the opportunity to vote in open and free elections.

Letter to the editor: Charbonneau brings conviction and caring to progressive causes

Those of us who were lucky enough to have Jill Charbonneau as a mail carrier know her as an extraordinary person whose concern for people is readily apparent. As State House Representative, she would bring that caring to support progressive causes like a livable minimum wage, health care access for all and environmental responsibility.

Jill combines statewide experience in the labor movement with conviction and caring for working Vermonters. I urge you to vote for Jill Charbonneau for state representative from Middlebury.

Otter football trounces Fairfax in Division III quarterfinal

BRANDON — The No. 3 Otter Valley Union High School football team coasted past visiting No. 6 BFA-Fairfax, 35-0, in a Division III quarterfinal on Saturday.

The 7-2 Otters, the defending D-III champions, will travel to No. 2 Woodstock (8-1) for a semifinal at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Wasps handled the Otters in Brandon on Sept. 17, 41-14.

No. 1 Windsor (9-0) and No. 4 U-32 (6-3) will meet in the other semifinal this weekend. The Otters lost at Windsor, 55-13, and won at U-32, 26-15.

Eagle football ends season with a loss

MILTON — Host Milton dealt the Mount Abraham-Vergennes football team a 28-12 setback in a Friday Division II clash as the Eagles’ season came to a conclusion.

The Eagles hung with their hosts for the first half, trailing by 16-6 at the break. The Yellowjackets got one of their two first-half scores on an 81-yard interception return, and they added two-point conversions on both their scores.
