Dr. Kniffin sheds 'interim' title as head of Porter Medical Center

MIDDLEBURY — It was in March that Dr. Fred Kniffin agreed to assume what was then the unenviable hot seat as Porter Medical Center’s interim CEO. Porter employees and the greater community were up in arms about recent layoffs, financial problems, physician defections and the controversial tenure of Lynn Boggs, who had just resigned.

What a difference seven months can make.

Better L8 Than Never showcased 260 vintage vehicles

BRISTOL — Classic car owners were in for a treat at the 12th annual Better L8 Than Never car show, held on Sept. 25 in Bristol. The event is co-hosted by the Addison County Chamber of Commerce and the Snake Mountain Cruisers, a Vermont classic car club based in New Haven.

Perhaps it was the warm weather and clear skies, or else just the draw of the slick lines and careful care of some of the nicest classic cars in the area,

ACORN group to host candidates forum

Hosted by ACORN, Tandem and Middlebury College, the Forum will take place on Oct. 19, from 7-9 p.m. at Middlebury College’s Kirk Alumni Center.

ANeSU to screen preschoolers on Oct. 26

BRISTOL — The Early Education Program of Addison Northeast Supervisory Union will hold its developmental screenings on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Children in the five-town area will have the opportunity to play in an early childhood classroom using art materials, blocks, puzzles and imaginative play materials. Parents can share information about their child with the Early Ed staff and learn more about their child’s communication, social, play and motor skills. The screening is free and will take about one hour.

Scary silent movie with live music caps Brandon's season of 1920s films

BRANDON —“The Man Who Laughs” (1928), a silent drama featuring a disfigured man forced to wear an insane grin all his life, will be screened with live music on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. at Brandon Town Hall.

 The film will be accompanied live by silent film musician Jeff Rapsis. The screening is free and open to the public. Donations are accepted to help support the town hall’s ongoing renovation and restoration. The screening is sponsored by Omya, Inc.

Bristol to host town Halloween party Oct. 28

BRISTOL — Waitsfield Champlain Valley Telecom is teaming up with the Bristol Recreation Department to host a Children’s Halloween Party on Friday, Oct. 28, from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at Holley Hall.

Everyone is encouraged to wear costumes!

There will be music, activities and refreshments, including pizza and healthy snacks. The event is free and open to children of all ages.
