MIDDLEBURY — The Addison County Regional Planning Commission (ACRPC) board on Wednesday voted 15-11 that the proposed natural gas pipeline from Middlebury to Ticonderoga, N.Y., can pass muster with the county’s regional plan. That decision will be passed along to the Vermont Public Service Board to consider as it determines whether to green-light the controversial project being advanced by Vermont Gas.

SHOREHAM — The District 9 Environmental Commission on Monday issued an Act 250 permit to WhistlePig LLC to build a rye whiskey distillery and related infrastructure off Quiet Valley Road in Shoreham, a decision that comes after a lengthy and at-times bruising battle between the applicants and neighbors of the budding new enterprise.
The permit specifically allows WhistlePig to make the following additions to the 467-acre farm, owned by company founder Raj Peter Bhakta:
VERGENNES — Vergennes aldermen on Tuesday, for the first time in years, reached a consensus to extend city sewer lines into neighboring Ferrisburgh to serve a private business.
Denecker Chevrolet owner Tom Denecker, who has talked about sewer lines with Vergennes and Ferrisburgh officials many times in recent years, approached City Manager Mel Hawley on Tuesday and asked to be added to the evening agenda.

LEICESTER — A Leicester man could face life in prison if he is found guilty of shooting his neighbor and two Vermont State Police troopers in an incident early Sunday morning.
Timothy Foley, 47, refused to appear at his arraignment in Rutland Superior Court, criminal division, Monday afternoon, and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf to two charges of attempted murder and two charges of aggravated attempted murder.
MIDDLEBURY — The term “pop-up” was once confined to describing three-dimensional artwork in storybooks. It’s now being applied to spontaneous gatherings that bring attention to products, causes or activities — such as pop-up stores or concerts.

VERGENNES — The support the Bixby Free Memorial Library received on Town Meeting Day came on the heels of a new librarian arriving, and Bixby officials are optimistic that financial backing, the new hire and new job descriptions emphasizing outreach mean the library can play a larger role in area residents’ lives.
Library Director Jane Spencer said the Bixby board and librarians would continue to make increasing and improving library services their central mission in the years to come.

MONTPELIER — The Vermont Legislature is currently debating two bills aimed at protecting the state’s waterways. One seeks to regulate shoreline development while the other hopes to reduce the amount of phosphorus dumped into Lake Champlain and other waterways.
SHORELANDS BILL
The shorelands bill, H.526, would set standards for development of Vermont’s lakes and watersheds.
