MIDDLEBURY — It was in 1972 that David Werle focused on transforming his enthusiasm for photography into a new business — Middlebury Darkroom at 64 Main St. He and his family followed that up in 1983 with the opening of Lightning Photo in The Centre shopping plaza, a business that would move to 111 Court St. in 2002.
I recently went public with my intense desire to own a working wood cook stove. A few friends — having long ago accepted my quirks without question — started hunting on my behalf.
Their work paid off. Last Wednesday, I got a lead on a nice stove in Tunbridge for sale at a good price. By the time I contacted the seller, however, two other people had already made plans to look at it. My hopes were dashed. (On the bright side, apparently I’m not the only weirdo in Vermont.)
MIDDLEBURY — An opportunistic host Middlebury Union High School boys’ soccer team surprised undefeated Mount Abraham by taking a 3-1 lead early in Tuesday’s second half, but the Eagles answered with a surge and a 5-3 win that preserved their perfect record.
MIDDLEBURY — The Vergennes Union High School girls’ soccer team got a pair of early second-half goals from senior striker Ruby Dombek in a rain-soaked Monday game at Middlebury and held on for a 2-0 win.
Dombek and Tiger sophomore goalie Molly Campbell collided while Dombek poked the second ball home at 33:11, and both stretched out on the wet turf for 15 scary minutes while being treated.
THETFORD — Two seniors — Middlebury Union High School’s Max Moulton and Mount Abraham’s Natalie May — were the top local cross-country runners in Saturday’s 23rd annual Woods Trail Run at Thetford Academy.
Moulton crossed the finish line in the boys’ 5-kilometer race in 18:19, good for 54th among the more than 700 male runners from schools all over New England.
