BRIDPORT — Senate Health and Welfare Committee Chairwoman Claire Ayer heard an earful on Monday from local opponents of a proposed law that would allow terminally ill, mentally competent patients to take a lethal dose of medication under specific conditions.
MIDDLEBURY — Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center (HPHRC) officials spend a lot of time helping injured patients become mobile enough to take that much-anticipated ride home. They routinely practice getting in and out of a vehicle as part of their transition to independence, though practice has at times required bundling up for parking lot visits in rain or snow.
LINCOLN — Students, parents and staff of the Lincoln Community School gathered in the building’s recently renovated gymnasium last Friday to celebrate a special month learning about the culture of India. The “India Festival” featured a shadow puppet show, a presentation of student artwork in traditional Indian styles, yoga, delicious Indian food and a magic show by local magician Tom Verner.
MIDDLEBURY — State and local police are getting a big assist in their investigations of domestic assault and sexual abuse cases thanks to a newly created service based in the Addison County Sheriff’s Department headquarters.
It’s called the Addison County Unit for Special Investigations, or ACUSI, and it includes a part-time investigator to help area law enforcement agencies bring to justice perpetrators of assault and sex crimes against adults and children.
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College men’s basketball team swept two NESCAC road games over the weekend before defeating visiting Lyndon on Tuesday to improve to 20-1, 6-1 in league play — and set some program landmarks in the process.
The league wins kept the Panthers’ chances for a first-place finish in NESCAC alive entering the final weekend of play, but they will need some help.
