Remember the movie “Groundhog Day”? The 1993 comedy starred Bill Murray as a curmudgeonly television weatherman who was forced to live the same day over and over. No matter what he did, every morning he woke up it was Feb. 2, Groundhog Day. His radio alarm jolted him awake each morning with the same Sonny and Cher song.

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police this week cited a Barton man into court for stealing and wrecking two vehicles from Hancock.
On this past Nov. 5, troopers from the Royalton VSP barracks responded to a Route 125 home in Hancock for reports of two stolen vehicles. Trooper Slusser reported that investigation revealed that Tyler Norris, 20, of Barton in the Northeast Kingdom took a vehicle owned by Ashley Brown of Hancock and crashed it nearby.
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Virginia L. Gillett, 27, of Salisbury for retail theft, in connection with an incident at Green Mountain Shoe and Apparel in The Centre shopping plaza on Jan. 1. Store officials reported having a video of Gillett stealing a pair of shoes that she allegedly wore to the store the very next day, according to police.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Responded to a report of a vehicle stuck in the Creek Road Car Wash on Jan. 2.
VERGENNES — Vergennes police on Jan. 2 cited a city man for driving under the influence of alcohol, an action taken after they received a phone call from a citizen alleging the man had offered the caller alcohol while both drivers were stopped at a stop sign.
Police said they saw a gold Honda Pilot fitting the description provided by the caller on Route 7 north of Vergennes, and then followed the vehicle before stopping it on Main Street.
Over the last two months, most of the United States and southern Canada have been locked into a “snow drought”, but for parts of Vermont, at least, some significant snow may be on the way.
