RIPTON — At the annual Governor’s Lunch on Monday, Gov. Peter Shumlin outlined the five major initiatives he says are necessary to raise the amount of money in Vermonters’ pockets.
“We’ve got to raise income,” he told a group of more than 60 gathered at Ripton’s Rikert Nordic Center for the event, an annual component of the Addison County Legislative Breakfast series.
MIDDLEBURY — Business looks promising for a prominent Middlebury employer, Connor Homes, which specializes in crafting colonial reproduction kit homes at its Route 7 plant that was once the home of Standard Register.
Connor Homes owner Mike Connor said deposits for his company’s high-end homes are running about 50 percent ahead of 2011, leaving him “cautiously optimistic” the trend is ready to turn back upward after several years of recession in the housing market.
MIDDLEBURY — At the Middlebury selectboard’s Tuesday meeting, members elected a new chairman for the first time in more than a decade and a half.
Longtime vice chairman Dean George was elected chairman, a position previously occupied by John Tenny, who retired last week after more than 16 years of service. George had held the vice chair position for more than a decade, and the board chose Victor Nuovo as its new vice chairman.
BRISTOL — After last week’s town meeting, the Bristol selectboard regrouped on Monday at Holley Hall to receive a newly proposed town plan, choose a new chair and tend to a range of timely matters.
After the Bristol Planning Commission last week approved a long-debated land-use section in the proposed town plan, the planners wrapped up their revision process and sent the document to the selectboard. The board received the new document and on April 23 will meet with members of the planning commission, who will highlight certain elements of the plan.
MIDDLEBURY — Although Burlington’s Bluebird Tavern walked away from Saturday’s Vermont Chili Festival in downtown Middlebury with the banner for Best Overall Chili, a number of local vendors and organizations also became winners in one of the six categories at the annual event.
