VERGENNES — Prompted by a citizen question, Vergennes aldermen on Tuesday discussed whether to continue to allow a large Christian nativity scene to be displayed on the city green during the weeks leading up to Christmas.

It is about pounding the most radical conservative ideas into the public mind by constant repetition during the Republican presidential campaign, whether by Santorum himself, by Gingrich or Ron Paul, by an intimidated Romney, or by the Republican House majority. BRISTOL — Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., met with more than 130 Vermonters in Bristol’s Holley Hall last Sunday to discuss a range of issues, from health care to women’s rights. But the bulk of conversation centered on an eroding middle class, a need to raise incomes and a risk of leaving future Americans with a lower standard of living.

BRISTOL — Last week many Bristol residents found themselves without water, and the town reservoir went just about dry.
Both of these problems stemmed from a string of systemic failures that began with a faulty water pump, said Selectman Alan Huizenga, who provides engineering services to the town as the president of Green Mountain Engineering.

MIDDLEBURY — The next stop for the one-vote Town Meeting Day election win posted by Vergennes challenger Susan Ferland over incumbent Vergennes Union Elementary School board director Cheryl Brinkman was set to be in a Thursday morning hearing in Addison County Superior Court.
On March 6, Ferland, a former Addison Central School teacher, edged Brinkman, a VUES board chairwoman and Addison Northwest Supervisory Union board member, 329-328, in a race for a seat on the VUES board.
MIDDLEBURY — A Starksboro man was sentenced in Addison County District Court on Monday to 100 hours in jail, three years of probation and court costs after pleading guilty to a fifth drunk-driving offense and to reckless endangerment for driving while under the influence of alcohol with his 7-year-old son in his vehicle.
Judge Helen M. Toor also imposed alcohol-related conditions on Ruby Brace Road resident Marland Brewer, 46, and imposed court costs on him. Toor ordered Brewer to start serving his jail time on March 29 at the Marble Valley Correctional Facility.
