Posted on February 6, 2012 |
By Andrew Stein

BRISTOL — Three candidates will vie for two seats on the Bristol selectboard in Town Meeting Day voting on March 6.

While current selectboard Chair Joel Bouvier is running uncontested for his second three-year term, incumbent Sharon Compagna, running for her a two-year term, will face competition from Tim Heffernan.

Compagna has been on the board since 2007, when she was appointed to take the spot of her husband, Armand, who died that year. She won election to that seat on Town Meeting Day that year, and again in 2008 and 2010

By Andy Kirkaldy

VERGENNES — Vergennes aldermen recently approved a city warning for March 6 balloting that includes articles that, if approved, would change the number of signatures petitioners would need to challenge elections, increase the base amount of money in a fund that supports recreation programs, and no longer require city officials to mail an annual report to all addresses.

Those topics are also warned for discussion at the annual city meeting on March 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Vergennes Opera House.

MIDDLEBURY — The search for a new Addison Central Supervisory Union superintendent will kick into high gear this week, as a screening committee this Thursday will identify applicants it deems worthy for interviews in anticipation of recommending two or three finalists to the ACSU board next month.

Editorial: Job growth reality vs. myth

Posted on February 6, 2012 |
By Angelo S. Lynn

Mitt Romney, as well as most of the other Republican candidates for president, has run his campaign focused almost solely on President Obama’s sorry performance on creating jobs. Appealing to the conservatives in Nevada and Florida, he promised a robust period of job growth (of what percent he didn’t say) compared to the slow climb the job market has seen for the past three years.

As the Republican nomination approaches its foregone conclusion and hands the reins to Romney, President Obama’s response will pit reality against theory.

MIDDLEBURY — The Addison Central Supervisory Union has hired a new business manager, a move officials hope will stabilize a position that has seen a lot of turnover during the past year and a half.
