College language schools continue expansion

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College is more linguistically diverse than most countries for two months every summer, when the school’s signature language schools take over the campus. And while the number of students in Middlebury remains relatively stable each year, the program this year is continuing its recent trend of expansion — both in number of students and geographically.

Courthouse shuffles current tenants, adds new ones

MIDDLEBURY — The Frank Mahady Courthouse in Middlebury will be even busier than usual this week. No, officials aren’t anticipating a spike in legal cases; rather, they will be in the midst of a major reorganization of services within the 40,000-square-foot building.

Little League games come to Bristol

GRANVILLE — Since the 1960s, Granville’s tiny town office has been on a small plot of land with no running water.

Last Wednesday, Granville celebrated the grand opening of its renovated town hall and new town office, located in the town’s former schoolhouse. Town officials said Sen. Patrick Leahy was instrumental in landing the low-interest loans and grants that allowed them to complete the project, and though Leahy was in Washington at the time, Marcelle Leahy, his wife, spoke on his behalf at the ceremony on Route 100.

Kilroy is here, at the Brandon Town Hall

BRANDON — A convergence this year of three significant anniversaries, the town of Brandon’s 250th, the Brandon Town Hall’s 150th and WWII’s 70th, inspired Brandon Town Players’ Director Dennis Marden to stage the WWII musical comedy “Kilroy Was Here.” The show, which opened last Friday night and finishes its run on July 15 and 16, is the first major musical to hit the Town Hall stage in almost 30 years.
