When Bristol Planning Commission Vice-Chair Chico Martin refused to accept public comments from John “Slim” Pickens — the only citizen in attendance at the commission’s Nov. 15, meeting — Martin may have violated state law, according to Secretary of State Jim Condos and his deputy Brian Leven.

This year, the town of Middlebury and a number of other towns in the state mark the 250th anniversary of their chartering in 1761.
In Middlebury, this has meant throwing a series of commemorative events, including a birthday bash along with the Middlebury Spooktacular and a charter signing celebration at the Town Hall Theater on November 4.

The Middlebury Community Players’ production of Funny Girl has one-upped Hollywood, out-staged Broadway and, much like the character she plays as Fanny Brice, unleashed a new star to the Middlebury stage — Kim Anderson.
The show, which opened last Thursday at the Town Hall Theater and continues this weekend, tells the story of comedienne Fanny Brice and her rise from the slums of New York to stardom in the Ziegfeld Follies.
MIDDLEBURY — Vermont Hard Cider Co. has filed plans to build a new, 87,005-square-foot bottling plant on a 27.6-acre parcel on the north side of Middlebury’s Exchange Street, between the Bridge School and Maple Landmark Woodcraft.
The nation’s pre-eminent manufacturer of hard cider, Vermont Hard Cider (VHC) has been looking to expand out of its current 60,000 square feet of rented space at 153 Pond Lane, where it produces and markets its increasingly popular brand of Woodchuck hard ciders throughout the country.
MIDDLEBURY — The Addison Central Supervisory Union (ACSU) school board last week officially launched its search for a new superintendent, agreeing on a salary range, length of contract, the makeup of a screening committee for candidates, and a basic timetable for selection of a finalist expected to be on the job by next summer.
VERGENNES — Vergennes aldermen at their Nov. 15 meeting agreed to make a second loan from a city-administered revolving loan fund to Shear Properties, the owners of 171 Main St. and the Shear Cuts beauty salon that does business at that address.
Hawley described the $70,788 agreement with Shear Properties as essentially a loan consolidation.
