PAUL SAENGER

SHOREHAM — Paul Saenger, 59, died Sunday evening, Oct. 5, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 30, 1955, in Belleville, Ill., Paul grew up in Millstadt, Ill., and maintained his childhood friendships throughout his life. He was the son of the late Fredrick O. and Irma (Wittmer) Saenger.

Paul earned his BA and MS from the University of Illinois and PhD from Purdue University where he again made friendships that lasted until the end. He came to Vermont in 1982 where he had a teaching, research, and extension position at UVM.

VIRGINIA BROWN

MIDDLEBURY — Virginia Holmes Brown, 91, died peacefully at her home in Middlebury on Sept. 23, 2014. Born in Troy, N.Y., on Dec. 3, 1922, “Ginna” was the daughter of Northrup R. Holmes and Bertha May Holmes. She grew up in Troy and attended Emma Willard School for 12 years.

CHRISTINE CHESLEY

BRISTOL — Christine Delta Banks Chesley, 92, was born in Comfort, W.V., Feb. 27, 1922. She resided in many areas of our country as the wife of a United States Coast Guard serviceman. She herself served as a dedicated nurse during World War II where she cared for her future husband, Myron Edward Chesley.

PATRICIA DANAHY

PLAISTOW, N.H. — Patricia M. Danahy, 76, of Plaistow, N.H., died Sept. 27, 2014, surrounded by family. She was born in Lawrence, Mass., the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Bernice A. (Zolubos) Jaskal.

Patricia was married on Jan. 31, 1958, to John P. Danahy, who predeceased her in 2006. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who lived for many years in Lincoln and Bristol, Vt., and most recently in Plaistow, N.H.

CAROLYN HAMEL

FERRISBURGH — A memorial service for Carolyn Chamberlain Hamel of Massachusetts, a former resident of Ferrisburgh who died May 21, 2014, will be held Sunday, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m. at the home of Scott and Lisa Brace on Sand Road in Ferrisburgh.

JACK BILLINGS

VERGENNES — Jack H. Billings, 71, of Vergennes died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born Nov. 13, 1942, in Boston, Mass., the son of Ernest and Helena Billings.

He is survived by a sister, Joyce Jennings of Hudson Falls, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral services.

SHIRLEY LILLY

BRIDPORT — Shirley G. Lilly, 81, died early Sunday morning, Sept. 28, 2014, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.

Born March 23, 1933, in Middlebury, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Pidgeon) Giard. She was a graduate of Middlebury High School and also earned her B.A. degree in Education and taught in Shoreham for many years.

She married Richard Lilly on June 18, 1955.

ANNE ROSE

MIDDLEBURY — Anne Bleakley Rose, 78, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Anne was born March 24, 1936, in Orangeburg, S.C., and was the daughter of William Jay Bleakley and Marjorie Aborn Bleakley. She attended Orangeburg schools and Smith College where she majored in music. It was there she met her future husband, and the love of her life, Frank Stevens Rose, on a blind date. They were married June 22, 1957, in Orangeburg.

WILLIAM DAVIDSON

NEW HAVEN — William C. Davidson, 72, of New Haven died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at his home.

Arrangements for a celebration of his life are being planned.

A full obituary will appear in an upcoming edition of the Addison Independent.

DANIEL RYAN

FERRISBURGH — A lifetime resident of Ferrisburgh, Daniel Alcide Ryan, 74, died at home in Ferrisburgh on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014. He was born in Ferrisburgh on Sept. 4, 1940, and graduated from Vergennes High School in 1959. He worked for 40 years as a welder for the Blodgett Co. in Burlington and Shelburne.

His relatives say he had a love of welding, repairing vehicles, and boats. He was a very giving person, and was always ready to help a friend or family member in need.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
