SALLY HUTCHISON

BRANDON — Sally S. Hutchison, 77, of Brandon, passed away on Oct. 17, 2016, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. A complete obituary and funeral announcement will be published in a later edition. Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon is in charge of all arrangements.

BEVERLY DUCHESNE

MIDDLEBURY — Beverly I. Duchesne, 79, passed away unexpectedly at her home Saturday, Oct. 14, 2016. She was born Dec. 3, 1936 in Bridport, Vt., the youngest daughter of the late Kenneth and Rena (Whittemore) Murray.

On July 28, 1956, she married James Duchesne and traveled with him during his 16 year service in the U.S. Air Force until his death in 1972. She then returned to Middlebury with their two sons and took a job with the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a collection official where she dedicated 32 years until her retirement.

GEOFFREY DEMONG

CORNWALL — Geoffrey Lawrence Demong, 72, passed away peacefully on Oct. 2, 2016, in Cornwall in the home he lovingly built for his family. Geoff was a teacher, an athlete, an orchardist, a fireman, a master builder and craftsman, a vintner and a provider. He was unstintingly kind, dedicated to his life’s work, a man of values and above all else devoted to his family. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, son, uncle and friend.

ARMAND BENOIT

FERRISBURGH — Armand E. Benoit, 78, a longtime resident of Ferrisburgh, passed away with his family by his side after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s, on Oct. 15, 2016.

He was born in Burlington on Oct. 8, 1938 and was the son of the late Leo and Laurette (Brault) Benoit. On June 10, 1961 he married the love of his life, Mary Rivers.

SAN CRISTOBAL, N.M. — Tom Bass, 81, formerly of Lincoln, Vt., transitioned from this life peacefully on Oct. 8, 2016, following a brief illness, in the care and company of loved ones, in San Cristobal, N.M. Tom was born Aug. 10, 1935.

MIDDLEBURY, VT — John Phair, 75, passed away on September 21, 2016, at The Arbors in Shelburne, VT, a memory care facility. He was born on September 25, 1940, in Oakland, CA, the son of Ewart and Virginia (Van Sickle) Phair.

JOHN WHITNEY

CORNWALL — John Thomas Whitney, Sr., age 72, passed away Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, N.H.

John was born in Springfield on Oct. 27, 1943. He was the son of Herbert and Lorette (Supernault) Whitney. He grew up in Salisbury where he received his early education. He began his working career on the family farm. He later worked for JP Carrara & Sons in East Middlebury for over 25 years.

DAVID SERAFIN

SHOREHAM / BRISTOL — David L. Serafin Sr., 77, passed away at his home in Shoreham on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, surrounded by his family and closest friends.

Dave was born on Oct. 9, 1939, in Bridgeport, Conn., the first son of Leon and Margaret Serafin. He attended parochial schools, graduating from Fairfield University and earning his Masters Degree from the University of Hartford. Dave taught mathematics in both West Hartford and Bristol, Conn., retiring after 30 years of teaching at Mount Abraham Union High School in Bristol.

EDMUND OSBORNE

HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Edmund A. “Ozzie” Osborne, 96, passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, at Family Hospice and Palliative Care in Pittsburgh. He was the loving husband of his high school sweetheart, the late Helen V. (Reich) Osborne, to whom he was married for 74 years.

Born on May 22, 1920, in Middleton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Faries and Helen (Haller) Osborne. Edmund was a plant manager for Standard Register in York, Bedford and Burlington, Vt. for over 46 years.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
