PATRICIA WRIGHT

BRIDPORT — Patricia (Pat) Ann Payne Wright passed away Oct. 27, 2016 after a long illness. She was born Aug. 13, 1936, to Stanton and Marion Payne and married H. Kent Wright III on Sept. 27, 1953.

DONALD REEDSTROM

HORSESHOE BEND, Ark. — Donald Reedstrom, 81, of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., was called home on Saturday, October 29, 2016.

Born March 10, 1935 in Mankato, Minn., he married Karen Lindorff on September 5, 1958. Karen survives along with their four sons, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Don spent 15 years with Co-Operative Insurance Companies in Middlebury, where he retired in 2000.

POLLY QUINN

HINESBURG — Polly Squire Quinn of Hinesburg passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the UVM Medical Center on Oct. 27, 2016 at the age of 93. Polly was very active in the Hinesburg Community and raised champion Morgan Horses under Heyday Morgans. Her son Mike Quinn is a longtime resident of Middlebury.

KENNETH NORLAND

VERGENNES — Kenneth Norland passed away on October 30, 2016 after a long illness. He was 84. He and his wife Norma, originally from Lexington, Mass., moved to Vermont in 2011.

Born in Erie, Pa., Kenneth was a physical chemist, educated at Harvard and Brandeis Universities. He spent much of his career as a research scientist at Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge, Mass., during that company’s most successful years. His interests ranged widely from astronomy and other sciences to study of the natural world.

RUTH MILLER

MIDDLEBURY — Ruth S. Miller, 89, passed away earlyMondaymorning Oct. 31, 2016 at her residence in Middlebury.

She was born Feb. 5, 1927 in Bristol, Vt., the daughter of Clinton and Esther (Lawrence) Steadman.

Ruth was a member of the New Horizon Club and the Robert Frost Society. She enjoyed bingo, traveling, sewing, knitting caps for cancer patients, cards and spending time with her family.

ADDISON — Linda Entrott of Addison, born May 3, 1947, passed away at home on October 22, 2016. Linda would want to thank Dr. Claire Verschraegan and her staff in the Oncology Department at the University of Vermont Medical Center. In addition, a special thank you to the caring professionals from Addison County Home Health & Hospice for their tremendous care and joy they brought to Linda.

ELIZABETH GINSBURG

BRISTOL — A memorial service for Elizabeth Ginsburg, 76, of Bristol will be held on Sunday morning Nov. 13 in the Walkover Gallery, 15 Main Street, Bristol. People will gather at 9:30 a.m. and the ceremony will start at 10 a.m. Elizabeth passed away on Sept. 29, and the obituary may be found in the Oct. 6 edition of the Addison Independent.

MIDDLEBURY — Brenda Lea Brown “Sis,” born June 15, 1967, passed away peacefully at her home in Middlebury on October 31, 2016, with her sister Pam and best friend Linny by her side.

MURIEL NEEL

PANTON / WARREN, Vt. — Muriel R. Neel, 63, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016 due to injuries sustained from a fire. Born in Burlington on Aug. 16, 1953, she was the daughter of the late John C. Snow Sr. and Marion (Bissell) Snow May. On Oct. 3, 1987, she married Harold T. Neel in Warren.

MICHAEL DRAKE

LONG BEACH, Calif. / WEYBRIDGE, Vt. — Michael D. Shows Drake, 59, of Long Beach, Calif., passed away suddenly from heart failure at his home on Oct. 13, 2016. He was born in Middlebury on Nov. 29, 1956 to Rev. Louise Shows and Dr. Marion Shows. Michael grew up in Vermont and England. He had lived in California for many years, but regularly visited his family in Weybridge. He is survived by his mother and three siblings.

A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to H.O.P.E.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
