ELEANOR PRATT

WEST ADDISON — Eleanor H. Pratt, 94, passed away following a brief illness on April 4, 2016, at Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury.

Eleanor was born Oct. 17, 1921, in Panton, daughter of Clarence and Florence (Sprague) Hawley. She attended schools in East Panton and Vergennes, graduating from high school in 1939. She went on to Mary Fletcher Nursing School, graduating as an RN in January 1943, and then worked as a nurse at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.

SANDRA RUVERA

MIDDLEBURY — A celebration of life for Sandra Jean Ruvera (Jan. 7, 1942-Nov. 23, 2015), daughter of Aldo and Josephine Ruvera, will be held on April 22 at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on North Pleasant Street in Middlebury. All are welcome from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. to share in remembrances and music. Light refreshments will be served. Interment will be Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m. in Hope Cemetery in Barre.

GALE 'TWEET' THOMPSON

VERGENNES — Gale “Tweet” Thompson, 69, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016, at Living Well Care Home in Bristol.

He was born on July 1, 1946, in Kenton, Ohio, the son of Gale Gordon Thompson and Kate Ward Clifford.

He attended Vergennes Union High School and was a meat cutter by trade.

Gale is survived by his mother, Kate Clifford; two sons, Robert and Joshua; three sisters, Pamela Cross, Connie Gilbert and Patricia Neate; two brothers, Mike Thompson and Charles Clifford; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

JOHN FLICKINGER

MIDDLEBURY — John Hodgdon Flickinger passed away peacefully on March 29 2016. He had celebrated his 98th birthday 10 days earlier with family and friends at the Residence at Otter Creek in Middlebury, Vt.

A wonderful husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was much beloved by his family and friends, all of whom enjoyed his sense of humor, varied interests, and joy in life.

DAVID FLIGHT

MIDDLEBURY — A memorial service and celebration of life in music and words for David Strong Flight, who died Jan. 14, 2016, will be held Saturday, April 16, at 2 p.m. at the Champlain Valley Unitarian Universalist Society, Middlebury.

Handicap-accessible parking and drop-offs are available at the church; all other parking is at the high school parking lot.

Following the service the family will host a reception at the church.

FRANCIS FORREST

MIDDLEBURY — Francis L. Forrest died March 23, 2016. He was born July 28, 1922, one of 10 children of the late Philip L. and Clara R (Danyew) Forrest of Middlebury. He attended school in Middlebury and then served time in U.S Air Corps in the U.S. and England during WWII, from 1942-1946. He was awarded several decorations and metals.

ROBERT KELLOGG JR.

LINCOLN — Robert William Kellogg Jr. died on March 27, 2016, at his home in Lincoln, Vt.

Rob was born Jan. 4, 1969, the son of Robert and Patricia (Jackman) Kellogg. He was a graduate of Springfield High School, where he excelled in academics and athletics. Rob studied at the Esalen Institute in California and received his degree from San Francisco School of Massage and Bodywork. He was currently working for the Counseling Service of Addison County.

ANDREW MCCABE

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — It is with great sadness that Jane, Shaw and Duncan McCabe announce the sudden passing of their father, Andrew, on April 1, 2016.

Andy, 54, died unexpectedly at his home near Annandale-On-Hudson, where he was employed as the Bard Men’s Soccer Coach and an Assistant Athletic Director since the summer of 2013. Andy’s recent success at Bard had been recognized by being named the Liberty League Coach of the year, and the ECAC Div. III Upstate Coach of the Year.

BURLINGTON — Ryan A. Morin, 35, passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2016. Born in Burlington, Vt., on Dec. 3, 1980, he was the son of Diane Many and Rick Lincoln.

RONALD PIDGEON

VERGENNES — Ronald Edward “Von Ron” Pidgeon, 78, of Vergennes, passed away peacefully at Burlington Health & Rehab on Monday, April 4, 2016, and was met at the pearly gates by his brother, Marcus, and his son, Joseph Edward.

Ron was born at home in North Ferrisburgh, Vt., on May 21, 1937, the son of Edward and Bertha (Quentin) Pidgeon.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
