Emogene Farnsworth

PANTON — Emogene LaMire “Emmy” Farnsworth, 88, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Mary Bingham’s home in Bristol.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes. Interment will be in Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, PO Box 11, Vergennes, VT 05491.

She was an eighth-generation Vermonter born Nov. 21, 1921, in Wolcott, the daughter of Victor and Ada Driscoll LaMire.

Memorial service for Charles Jimmo Sr.

SCHUYLERVILLE, N.Y. — A graveside funeral service for Charles F. Jimmo Sr., 67, of Gilboa, N.Y., who died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, will be held Friday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m. at the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y.

Veda Haskins

TICONDEROGA, N.Y. — Veda Haskins, 85, of Ticonderoga, N.Y., died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to noon and will be followed by a memorial service at noon on Saturday, Dec. 5, at Harland’s Funeral Home in Port Henry. Interment will follow at the South Moriah cemetery, after which a reception will be held at the St. Patrick’s Parish Hall in Port Henry.

Memorial donations may be made to the Dialysis Center at Elizabethtown Hospital in Elizabethtown and/or the National Kidney Foundation.

BURLINGTON — Ervin Briggs Holland, 89, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Starr Farm Nursing Home in Burlington.

The funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. Margaret Fletcher, pastor at St. Thomas & Grace Episcopal Church, officiated. The graveside committal service and burial with military honors followed in the family lot at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon.

Ronald Sperry

HUNTINGTON — Ronald G. Sperry Jr., 63, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Friends may call Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 South Main St., Middlebury. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at the Vermont Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Randolph, followed by military honors and burial.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the cancer charity of one’s choice.

Charles Jimmo

GILBOA, N.Y. — Charles F. Jimmo Sr., 67, of Gilboa, N.Y., died Friday, Nov. 20, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., after a long illness.

Services and interment will be arranged at the convenience of the family.

He was born April 18, 1942, in Burlington, the son of Wright L. Jimmo and Alice E. (Gilmore) Jimmo.

He lived off and on in Addison County for many years and leaves many relatives in the area.

Helen Foster

MIDDLEBURY — Helen Reed Foster, 91, of Middlebury, passed away at her home, Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

A celebration of Helen’s life was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at the Congregational Church of Middlebury, with the Rev. Andrew Nagy-Benson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Foote Street Cemetery, Middlebury.

Edgar Butterfield Sr.

MIDDLEBURY — Edgar Butterfield Sr. died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury with his family by his side. He was just 13 days shy of his 101st birthday.

Calling hours were held Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Sanderson Funeral Home on South Main Street in Middlebury. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. at Middlebury Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jill Robinson officiating. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol.

Timothy Lucia

MANTENO, Ill. — Timothy Francis Lucia, 68, of Manteno, Ill., died Nov. 19, 2009, from complications of lung cancer and heart disease.

He was born Jan. 4, 1941, in Middlebury, the son of Francis and Marion (Palmer) Lucia.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his three children, Timothy Lucia and his wife Lori, Thomas Lucia and his wife Lisa, and Susan Barger and her husband Gary; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his sisters, Melanie Dickinson and her husband Everett, and Priscilla Bowen and her husband Joseph of Middlebury.

Shirley LeCompte

VERGENNES — Shirley Evelyn Barrows LeCompte, 77, of Vergennes Residential Care in Vergennes, died Saturday, Nov. 20, after a long illness, surrounded by family and friends.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. at Fairmont Cemetery in Lee, Mass. Following the committal service the family will receive friends at the home of Steven and Ruth LeCompte at 125 Maple St. in Lee.

Donations may be made in Shirley’s name to the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, PO Box 11, Vergennes, VT 05491.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
