Addison County is full of great loops and sometimes you come across one when you least expect it. Last month I visited Zeno Mountain Farm in Lincoln, and I came across this fun little route. Pedaling through lush forest, I thought, "Hey!" I could use the Bristol-Middlebury Commute to visit the Bristol Farmers' Market on Saturday. Then, I could ride this Bristol Zeno Loop to some swimming holes along the New Haven river before biking back into Bristol for a cookie and on home for a nap.
Length: 14 miles
Duration: 1 hour
Head east out of Bristol on Main Street and stay on Route 116/17 until 17 breaks off. At about three miles, 17 will branch to the right up into the mountains. Follow it.
Bike up a fairly large hill for two miles and when you come to Quaker Street, hang a right. Quaker Street is a bit bumpy, so you folks on a road bike, ride with caution. Follow Quaker Street past Zeno Road on your left, which is the apex of the hill, and enjoy coasting through the oxygen rich August foliage.
Ride down past the Lincoln Town Offices and take a right on River Road. Follow it back down to Route 116 and hang a left back to Bristol.
Bring a bag or paniers for your farmers market goods and swimming clothes, and don't forget to stop at the many beautiful swimming holes as you roll on down to River Road.
