Since Tuesday, Vermont's gotten some national coverage on the topic of health care reform, not the least of which were Gov. Peter Shumlin's appearance on The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC (video below) and on NPR's The Diane Rehm Show.

The occasion for Shumlin's appearances — and the national attention — was the passage of S.57 in the Vermont Senate, which sets the state on track to offer health insurance to all Vermonters. A committee will now reconcile the House and Senate versions of the bill before it heads to Shumlin's desk.

"Real health care reform will come from the smaller states who aren't so beholden to these for-profit corporations, but who actually work for their citizens," said Shumlin on The Rachel Maddow Show.

"We've got to get this done for financial reasons and for ethical reasons, and I think the Green Mountain State will be the first to get it done."
