Well, the tallies are finally in, and it's not yet definitive, but the AP reports that Shumlin has claimed victory in the race for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
We watched the results roll in last night with great interest, tallying the votes in our own county and watching other websites — the Associated Press tallies, politico.com's handy map, and Twitter — to keep tabs on statewide races. It quickly became clear that the Democratic governor's race was going to be more exciting than anyone had expected it to be.
Exciting was one word for it. That feeling lasted from 8 until around 10:30. By then, the reigning emotion was sleepy. I could barely focus on the long list of results on the wall in front of me. By 11, I had to leave. I went home, ready to curl up in bed.
I didn't have to worry about missing anything, as it turns out. The AP was still getting new results in this morning, and so were we. And we'll certainly all be hearing about this race in particular in the days and weeks to come.
For now, here is the full liveblog conversation — the results and conversation as it happened last night. For full results and analysis, pick up tomorrow's paper at a newsstand, or check out the articles online.
