ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police on Saturday announced that they have cited a North Chittenden woman for cruelty to animals in connection with a June 26 investigation at a Terrier Drive property in Bristol.

Callie Gagnon, 63, is scheduled to answer to the cruelty to animals charge on Sept. 25 in Addison Superior Court, criminal division, according to VSP Trooper Joshua Gurwicz, who investigated the case.

Police said they had received a report of “neglected animals in poor condition” that were owned by Gagnon, who had moved from the Terrier Drive residence.

State police identified the animals as three chinchillas, a guinea pig, two birds, one Pionus parrot and one Moluccan cockatoo.

Lt. Jeffrey Danoski, commander of the VSP’s New Haven barracks, said the animals had been “neglected for some time.”

Police said they took the animals to the Eastwood Animal Clinic in Rutland for treatment and care.

In other recent activity, state police:

•  On July 10 at approximately 7:33 p.m. stopped a motor vehicle on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh after observing a violation. State police cited the driver, identified as 28-year-old Brandon M. Bothwell of North Ferrisburgh, for driving with a criminally suspended license.

•  On July 12 at 5 minutes past midnight stopped a vehicle on Route 17 in Fayston and cited Harlie Wimble, 28, of Granville for driving under the influence.

•  On July 12 at around 2 p.m. responded to Lincoln Road in Bristol after several witnesses said they saw a Middlebury man masturbating on the edge of the river. State police cited the man, identified as 58-year-old Terrance Derrick, for lewd and lascivious conduct.

• On July 13 at just before 2 p.m. received a report of a two-vehicle crash on Route 22A near Route 125 in Bridport. Police report that Ellen Welch, 38, of Shoreham and Alfred Burns, 85, of South Burlington were both driving southbound on Route 22A when Welch stopped the Toyota Scion she was driving for a “wide load” vehicle that was making a left turn to travel southbound in front of her. Police report that Burns, driving a Dodge Ram truck, struck the rear of Welch’s Toyota. Welch was taken to Porter Medical Center for treatment of unknown injuries; Burns reported no injuries. Neither alcohol nor drugs were determined to be contributing factors in the collision.

Vermont State Police were assisted by the Bristol Fire Department and Middlebury Regional EMS.

•  On July 16 at 12:24 a.m. stopped a 2003 BMW on Monkton Road in Ferrisburgh near Route 7 after observing multiple traffic violations. After detecting signs of impairment in driver Devan J. Corliss, 24, of Brandon, a drug recognition expert screened Corliss and state police then cited Corliss for driving under the influence of drugs.

•  On July 16 at approximately 7:25 p.m. received a 911 call reporting that a car had crashed into a telephone pole on Route 22A near Hemenway Road in Bridport. Police report that when they got to the scene, they found the vehicle was off the west side of the roadway and driver Anjana Waghela, 31, of Essex Junction and her passengers were out of the vehicle and being treated by rescue personnel.

Police report that their investigation showed that Waghela was driving a 2013 Honda Odyssey northbound on Route 22A and as she rounded a curve, she travelled off the east side of the roadway and over corrected, which caused her vehicle to cross both lanes and spin out of control before hitting a telephone pole on the west side of the road.

Waghela and her passengers were transported to Porter Medical Center for minor lacerations and contusions. All occupants of the vehicle were later released from the hospital. The Honda was considered to be a total loss.

Green Mountain Power secured the broken power lines and later replaced the power pole.

There were no other vehicles involved in this incident and neither alcohol nor drugs were determined to be contributing factors in the collision.
