Bristol Police Log: Area police assist with Vt. Click It or Ticket

BRISTOL — From May 29 through June 4, Bristol police participated in the statewide Click It or Ticket task force, patrolling different locations throughout Addison County. 

On May 29 — Memorial Day — officers from the Bristol and Vergennes police departments and Addison County Sheriff’s deputies patrolled Bristol for the day. On June 1, a Bristol police officer helped patrol Salisbury. The officer encountered a vehicle in which narcotics were seized. Law enforcement obtained a search warrant and seized additional drugs and contraband. Arrests are pending. 

On June 3, a Click It or Ticket detail in Shoreham, Bridport and Addison issued five tickets and four warnings. On June 4, a New Haven detail issued three tickets and three warnings.

Also May 29-June 4, Bristol police conducted six town-contracted traffic patrols, covering Burpee, Hardscrabble, Hewitt and Lincoln roads as well as the area around Route 116 and River Road. Officers issued two tickets for speeding, one ticket for a stop sign violation and one stop sign warning.

During that same period, Bristol police took fingerprints for two individuals and forwarded them for background checks.

In other activity, Bristol police:

Began investigating a reported case of child abuse and neglect on May 31, with the assistance of the Vermont Department for Children and Families.

Checked Mount Abraham Union High School on May 31. Police secured a door.

Worked out of the office at the Bristol Elementary School on June 1.

Investigated a June 1 report of a gray Volkswagen that reportedly passed a school bus stopped at MAUHS on May 31. No record could be found with the registration number provided for the suspect vehicle.

Responded to an accidental alarm activation at the town office on June 1.

Impounded a stray dog at the corner of Pine and Liberty streets and notified the Bristol dog officer on June 1. The dog did not have any tags but had on a harness-style collar.

Responded to a June 1 report that someone was walking around a West Street residence with a flashlight. The officer was nearby and so arrived within seconds, but saw no one around the house or in the area.

Assisted Vermont State Police with a two-vehicle crash with injuries near the intersection of Route 116 South and River Road on June 2. Police determined that a northbound vehicle crossed the centerline as the operator attempted to negotiate the corner on Route 116 and struck a southbound vehicle pulling a trailer head-on. Airbags and seatbelts kept injuries minor. 

Located two juveniles at the skate park on June 2. Chaperones at a seventh- and eighth-grade dance at Holley Hall called police to report that two boys had left the dance early. The chaperones were unable to verify with parents if the boys had permission to leave the dance, so they called the police. Once police located the boys, the officer contacted the parents. 

On June 3 talked to a man who stopped at the police station to report a sexting case involving a juvenile who had sent him nude photographs. Police determined that the incident occurred outside the police district, and referred the complainant to state police. Police then notified the Department for Children and Families. 

Responded to the Kountry Trailer Park to assist the Bristol Rescue Squad with a medical call on June 3.

Investigated a report of an erratic driver who had nearly run a bicyclist off the roadway on River Road heading into Bristol. 

Investigated a call about an allegedly suspicious-looking man walking his dog along East Street on June 4.

Assisted state police on Lafrance Road on June 4. Intoxicated people were reportedly throwing things at a residence. Police arrived to find the subjects had left, but then located their vehicle as it was leaving the area. The officer identified the subjects, then turned the incident over to state police, once troopers arrived.

Conducted a consent search of an electronic communication device as part of an active criminal investigation on June 4. Police secured evidence from the device, and criminal action is pending.
