VERGENNES — The Vergennes Police Department has announced that its personnel, along with other Addison County law enforcement agencies, will during the weekend of July 30 be conducting a special drunk-driving checkpoint somewhere in the county.

The city department and other agencies will be also be conducting roving patrols throughout Addison County in order to identify and arrest drivers who are under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

The Vergennes police are joining other law enforcement agencies in requesting drivers to make sure that if they are going to drink and have to travel afterwards that they do so with designated drivers.

Vergennes police also recently cited a juvenile for a mid-June incident in which three city children reported an individual with a gun had threatened them.

On July 6 they cited a male juvenile from Vergennes for reckless endangerment/juvenile acts. City police allege the juvenile pointed an air-powered BB gun at the three children, ages 6 to 9, while they were playing in a roadway.
